I’d like to note that I’m all for legalization of marijuana, by the way. But anyone who thinks it doesn’t impair driving skills is probably high themselves. (And if you don’t give a shit if your surgeon is stoned, you’re on something a HELL of a lot stronger than weed) ---

Never hit one school bus. Listen, I’m all down with pot and all, but it doesn’t affect everyone the same way. You definitely would not want to be with me in a car if I were high. The one time I drove stoned–just to back the car out of the driveway to let someone out–I had to ask someone else to finish doing it, because I just did not have the spatial awareness to accomplish the task. Some people seem fine driving when high. Others don’t. I certainly wouldn’t take the risk with my (fictional) daughter and let her in the car with any stoned individual. I haven’t done pot in almost a decade, since sometimes it just hits me _hard_. Three quarters of the time it’s fine and pleasant, the other quarter it’s a terrible experience and I swear I’ll never do it again. ---

IIRC Cartooniverse is a photographer. He was probably doing a workshop in an event space in a camera store. After the camera, property of the store and on display went missing they looked. It was pointed out that they could check the security camera. Stoner thief realized he wasn’t going to get away with it promptly ‘found’ it before the video was checked. ---

**Diogenes** , can you shut the fuck up already? Our trusted friend marijuana can, and often does, effect cognitive abilities. Yes, the extent to which varies from person to person, but this hijack is annoying and stupid. Please stop bringing the Weed-Smokers Revolution into threads unnecessarily. Shit, I drink more than most people, don’t try to hide it, and work it into more threads than necessary, but I realize when it is appropriate to be drunk and when it isn’t. Don’t show up to important shit high and/or drunk, and then wonder why people think you’re an asshole who isn’t serious. It’s not more complicated than that. ---

I always thought that marijuana had _less_ of an impact on inexperienced smokers. Like people who smoke for the first time often report little to no effect, whereas experienced smokers can get high more easily. I also remember learning something to that effect in abnormal psych. ---

I actually deleted a paragraph about similar studies regarding drinking, and did so because I didn’t want it to degenerate into a pointless Cite Fest, enamoured with debating and nitpicking the life out of each citation, such that the point is lost entirely. But since we’re here, the same is true of drinking. I’ve read studies that claim mild alcohol intoxication improves driving ability, and for the same reason. When a driver has been drinking, but is still functional, he will often compensate for potential errors due to the realization that he has been impaired, and drive better than Suzy Normal, or my absolute nemesis, Suzy Text Message. Anecdote: When we were kiddos, once my brother was drunker than Jesus, and tried to improve his posture and mannerisms so that Pa would not catch on. It was late at night (/in the morning) so Pa knew he was drunk, and his absurdly upright posture just confirmed the suspicions. “Of course he was drunk,” Pa said. “He was walking straight as a soldier.” Excellent! The hardest core of drunk drivers have gotten this down to a science. They don’t drive too perfectly because they realize it arouses suspicion. So they drive 10 mph above the speed limit like everyone else, except they use turn signals. ---
