You steal a camera during MY Workshop? Fuck you, you piece of messed-up shit !

Would you let your kids in the car of a driver who was stoned?

The effects of chronic alcohol abuse are much, much, MUCH worse than for chronic chronic use. Pot doesn’t pickle your brain and destroy your liver.

Sure. Studies show that pot does not impair driving.

Oh, come on. Comparing a man who smokes a joint in the privacy of his own home to a thief is absurd. If my neighbor blazes up, that’s his call - it doesn’t harm me at all. If he steals from me, I’m most certainly harmed.

Not at all? No impairment whatsoever?

Cite, please?

Some may. The study mhendo cited suggests that pot does impair both cognitive and motor skills. Which is correct? Damned if I know - but given that there are decent studies that show talking on a cell phone can be a dangerous distraction in a car, it seems odd to be cavalier about the risk of driving while stoned.

This has nothing to do with legalization, by the way. I fully support absolute legalization of marijuana for recreational use - just not while driving. Treat it like alcohol.

This pothead is a total moron! Why not just steal the surveillance camera instead?

The SDMB should make it a rule that you are higher than a kite before you are allowed to post then.

And, are you related to the boozer that loves to tell people he is the hit of the party when he’s drunk?

You probably did great in your DARE classes, didn’t you? Got all the stickers and everything, I bet.

And what studies might those be? A quick search finds ample evidence otherwise.

*"A meta-analysis of approximately 60 experimental studies, including laboratory, driving simulator, and on-road experiments, found that behavioral and cognitive skills related to driving performance were impaired in a dose-dependent fashion with increasing THC blood levels.

Evidence from both real and simulated driving studies indicates that marijuana can negatively affect a driver’s attentiveness, perception of time and speed, and the ability to draw on information obtained from past experiences.

A study of over 3000 fatally-injured drivers in Australia showed that when marijuana was present in the blood of the driver they were much more likely to be at fault for the accident. And the higher the THC concentration, the more likely they were to be culpable."*

I’m also curious what the workshop was for.

And did you ever ask the hotel (or wherever the workshop was held) to check the surveillance tapes just to be sure?

Oh, really?

People who are baked drive BETTER:

Summary: the impairment is not significant enough to affect driving skills, and people who are stoned actually drive more slowly and cautiously.

I drove stoned a billion times. Never hit one school bus.

Wait… Now you’re saying you knew it caused impairment? Why did you adamantly argue that it didn’t if you knew it did?

I didn’t say that at all. I never thought it caused any impairment at all except perhaps for inexperienced users. I still don’t think it cuases any impairment significant enough to worry about. Pass the bong to my surgeon. I don’t care.

I’m sorry your camera was stolen, Cartooniverse, and I’m also sorry that your perfectly good rant has been sidelined.

Ditto.

But you gotta love the irony that a rant thread about a thieving pothead was stolen by another pothead.

I’m more curious about the camera as well. Did the surveillance video really show the guy stealing the camera? Or is the only evidence the fact that he managed to find it? (I agree that if it’s just the latter it’s still suspicious but not hard evidence.)

Nope but it may cause or worsen mental illness (my own persoanl experience is that I have met more stoners in the psych ward than out)

Lots of cites here if you would care to look:

Yeah, could we change the message board so that a thread that’s been Diogenized is a different colour or something? Like the Grapist? That would be handy.
