Okay, you sound pretty reasonable, and, IMHO, her positions themselves are entirely pit-worthy, just as if you had this conversation with someone on the street. I just didn’t think that they required the, “Fire the witch, fire the witch!” response from some other posters. I wasn’t there, and don’t know the exact situation, so I’ll be happy to give you the benefit of the doubt. As for calling her fat, I’m okay with it. I know that the SDMB has a bit of a Chub-erati, but for most people, yes, your weight is something that you can control, and it’s something that people should feel free to mouth off on or pick at people about when pitting people. I mean, we already call people evil for driving SUV’s… ---

And yes, sometimes when you’re pissed you throw in every conceivable insult that _might_ apply to a person, no matter how irrelevant it is to what they’ve actually done. However, when you bring up something that is not related to the actual offense the person has committed, you’re often asking for trouble. And I never saw the reasoning, “Well, they can _do_ something about it” as a justification. It really isn’t anyone else’s business whether or not they can do something to change a certain aspect of themselves, as long as it isn’t hurting anyone else and isn’t really relevant to the discussion. So, this is why it isn’t a good idea to bring up everything but the kitchen sink about a person—_someone_ is going to take offense. For instance, “Why, you Arkansansan, poodle-owning, rap-music-listening, Macintosh-computer-using, Sears-shopping, recipe-stealing ASSHOLE!” might get a lot of rap-music fans from Arkansas, who own poodles (and who shop online at Sears on their iMac), wondering what the point of that all was, if all that was _really_ pissing off the person was that someone stole her recipe. Anyway, that’s just my take on it. I’m not really singling out the OP, because I thought her mention of the fat thing was pretty minor. Had I a problem with it, I would have mentioned it sooner. ---

I kept my cool and told her I didn’t want to discuss the abortion thing anymore. When we moved on to discussing movies as a “safe” topic, she started in about Colin Farrell playing a “homo”, and how the “homos are forcing us to accept them and glorify them”. Sounds to me like she’s been watching a bit too much of the church channel. Also, is it just a coincidence that this girl has her car literally plastered with Bush stickers? 😃 ---

ONE MORE THING I don’t think she should be fired for this. I never said or implied that. I said that I didn’t know if I could continue to work with her, and I might seek other work if it means not having to see her for 8 hours every work day. I know it sounds lame, but this girl is making me ill! There’s more stuff that I haven’t even posted in the thread! ---

Maybe you live in an area where jobs are plentiful, but if not I can’t see you quitting a good job and hindering your own ability to pay your bills just because of some apprentice. If you quit over this girl, you’re only hurting yourself. Maybe you will have made a point, and maybe quitting a job on principle has a time and a place (Enron, etc.). Either way, your lights aren’t going to stay on just because you “took a stand” and quit. Sometimes you’ve just gotta let things slide and pick your battles. Yep. Sounds like this woman is a freaking waste of flesh to me, but I’ve yet to have a work situation where I liked all my co-workers. In fact, in most of my jobs, I’ve had a group of wonderful people with one or two people whom I _loathed_. I can’t necessarily claim I’ve worked with anyone as bad as this woman, but I suspect I have. I can’t understand why one bad co-worker, and a low-level one who’s unlikely to stay long at the job at that, would lead you to quit your job. I’d have a hard time keeping my mouth shut around someone like her, but I’d do it anyway. It’s not worth quitting a job because you have one co-worker you dislike. I don’t see what it will accomplish, and if she’s making you that miserable, I think you need to do some work inside yourself. It’s hard to be tolerant of horrible, horrible, worthless bitches like this woman, but we all have to learn to do it sometime. Those people will always be around, and you can’t hunt 'em down and kill 'em like they deserve, so you have to learn to put up with 'em. Come home, rant about her to your SO if you’ve got one, or your friends, or here in the Pit. But stay on the job, and keep your mouth shut, and wish her a nice evening when you leave every day. Because it’s the least stressful, most pleasant way to deal with that kind of person. ---

Is this girl married? She’s only 22, there’s a good chance she’s not, and if so, well, how’d she get a tubal pregnancy? Since she’s all concerned about God’s will and mindful of how sinful some actions are, I’m sure she wouldn’t, you know, fuck outside the bounds of holy matrimony, would she? Why, that would make her a hypocrite! Just thinking offhandedly about something you might want to point out to her if she continues ranting about how “sinful” the other hairdresser, the homos are other people who are not her are. ---

Geez **Lib** , hijack much? :rolleyes: **Weirddave** , the person in question is married. I’m not sure how long she’s been married. I worked with her for about a year or two. I think it was when she was ages 16-18. She wasn’t married then, but of course it would’ve been illegal. She quit due to the fact that she was expected to work. Yeah, she was a charmer back then too. I don’t remember her being deeply religious, but it’s been almost four years. I do remember her being a major pain in the ass. I was her supervisor and it took an act of boot to get her rear in gear. She spent a majority of her time eating, talking, or smoking. ---

You, apparently, have no trouble with it, so long as it’s in defense of one of your pet issues. I have a hard time leaving without a response to insults like this.
