# You want victory cabbage with that?

Does it depress anyone else as much as it does me that Cecil no longer has to go all the way back to World War I to dredge up instances of patriotic idiocy like renaming sauerkraut “Victory Cabbage”? I remember when I first heard about it back in high school history class, thinking smugly, “Well, mankind may not have evolved much since then, but at least we’ll never see anything THAT childish again.”

Then along comes Bush’s war and “freedom fries”.

Sometimes I think the only question _really_ worth asking Cecil is: What’s the use?

Although I know not what, there’s something that tickles me about propaganda. I too thought “at least we’ll never see anything THAT childish again.” but it was with a sense of disappointment, not smugness, at having been born too late. Fortunately, I was not let down! Never again shall I doubt all that humanity is capable of.
