Of those 5 the Ramones are the only ones I’ve ever heard of. And I can’t tell you what decade the Ramones date from, nor what genre they play, nor any of their tunes. If forced to guess I’d say late 1950s to early 1960s.

No, they are not bored. MIL thinks FIL is funny, interesting, and engaging. FIL thinks that MIL is the cat’s pajamas. They really are a match. They’re very sweet to each other, after nearly 65 years together. But anything that happens outside their very tiny world doesn’t happen, as far as they’re concerned. And it’s an extremely tiny world.

I suspect there are millions of men who think women can get pregnant any time during their menstrual cycle - because that’s one misconception high-school health classes are not particularly keen on dispelling.

It’s not really a misconception. No, you can’t get pregnant if an egg isn’t present while the sperm are; and yes, if you know exactly when a woman last ovulated and will do so next you can say when conception can and can’t happen in that cycle, but: some women often have irregular cycles and many women have an occasional irregular cycle; sperm can live up to five days in the reproductive tract; many women don’t know when they last ovulated (as opposed to when their last period was); and very few know for sure whether they’re about to ovulate in the next five days – therefore counting on a “safe time” is a really bad idea, at least if you’re trying to prevent pregnancy altogether instead of just reducing the number of pregnancies over time. Even sex (PIV) during menstruation can lead to pregnancy. It’s less likely to – in somebody with mostly regular cycles a whole lot less likely to – but it’s still possible.
ETA: that’s not to say that there aren’t some drastic misconceptions that some men have about female anatomy!

In 1980 I was browsing records at Wuxtry in St. Louis, when a couple of Black boys about 10–11 years old walked up and asked me, “Excuse me… Who is that?” pointing to a poster of Jimi Hendrix high on the wall. I said, “That’s Jimi Hendrix, the greatest guitar player who ever lived.” Then I showed them his albums.

There were a surprising number of things mentioned above that I don’t know about. Since I pay attention to very little music post-Beatles, I could not name a band. And the name Phelps didn’t trigger anything, although Westboro Baptist Church certainly did. And that actor who apparently committed suicide, never heard of him. While I had not heard of Hiroshima Day, one of the earlier memories when I was 8 1/2 my father sat me on a park bench and explained what happened. He evidently thought the world had shifted. I think he was right.
Surprisingly, no one mentioned either the Kennedy assassination or the Challenger disaster. Maybe everyone still knows about them/

I was outside with a co-worker one day when it was snowing. She was in her late 20s, mother of a kindergartener. I was wearing a black coat and was looking at snowflakes on my sleeve. She asked what I was doing and I told her and showed her my sleeve. She said “oh my god, they really look like that?!” She thought ❄ decorations were just symbols for snow. I hope she went home and showed her kid.
