  • Bob Marley and the Wailers [Jamaica] - turned reggae from a regional to a global style

  • Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66 [Brazil] - ditto Bossa nova

  • Ladysmith Black Mambazo [South Africa] - introduced the west to African music

  • The Scientists [Australia] - for a particular no-frills subset of grunge
