Your 6 greatest non-American and non-British bands

Well, looks like we’ll just need to have an arm wrestle about it.

You can keep Men at Work though.

Gong
Yello (Swiss)
Yellow Magic Orchestra (Japan)
Mutton Birds (NZ)
Triffids (Aust)
Faust (German)

ABBA
Heart
Tangerine Dream
Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass
maybe more?

Despite the name and sound, my understanding is that they were all Americans, and none were Latino.

AC/DC (Australia)
Rush (Canada)
ABBA (Sweden)
Golden Earring (The Netherlands)
Scorpions (Germany)
Daft Punk (France)

??? Herb Alpert is American and The Tijuana Brass was originally his trumpet playing overdubbed slightly out of sync. Then it was members of the LA-based Wrecking Crew.

Divynals
Split Enz
Boomtown Rats

Im gonna have to go to solo acts

Gowan
Jane Siberry
Neil Young

Bonus: I dont care but I have a soft spot for Nico

Well…how do you do?

@SailorHG, I assume you’ve seen their live video (Through Space and Time). If you haven’t, it’s absolutely fantastic:

Yes! I’ve seen it several times, even bought the soundtrack off of bandcamp.com. It’s pure musical and visual perfection and well worth watching, especially for those who have never seen the band before. [For those reading: go on and press that link! You’ll be glad you did!]

While I’m here, a couple other nominations also from my bandcamp collection:

Bloodywood [India, “Indian folk metal” and a great bunch of people]
Spacelords [Germany, instrumental stoner / space rock]

They’re not really my bag, but aren’t Pantera from Brazil?

Texas

Maybe I was thinking of Sepultura? Of course I could have just looked it up before posting.

At first they were Herb Alpert on multiple overdubbed horns, and the Wrecking Crew. And IF I remember correctly, the members of the touring band that was assembled later were predominantly Italian. But yes, a 100% American band.

Added: just saw peccavi’s post.

Nice pick. In a similar vein, I’ll also add The Go-Betweens (Aust).

Rush - Canada

Thin Lizzy - Ireland

AC/DC, The Clouds, The Jezebels - Australia

ZZ Top - Texas

Thread winner.
