My father had gone sober before I was born, but he still exhibits alcoholic tendencies, a sort of “dry drunk”–unpredictable anger, verbal abuse, etc.

I’ve come to realize that I give off a lot of the symptoms of [codependency](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codependency) (also spelled co-dependency) myself. I’m taking some steps toward trying to recover and identify my own issues.

I’m sure others have faced it throughout their lives, and I’m curious. If you’ve been a codependent, have you been able to overcome it? If you’ve had friends/significant others who were, how have they dealt with it? What were your experiences with it in general?
