> I am human and do have human weaknesses, one such one is drinking, though certain circumstances have to line up. I could go and have gone months without a drink. I can have a drink, sometimes 2 at a restaurant or likewise. But put into a situation where there is not much to do but drink I will usually continue to drink. It is a weakness I am aware of, and God is aware of.
>
> At this time the plan, as I knew it, was to do a hike to a mountain top, have a celebratory glass of wine then hike back. This was what I was expecting which is fine. This was not the plan however. It was to go to the mountain top and stay a very long time and get loaded - if I would have know this I would not have gone. This plays into that weakness of mine, though my heart was for God and my brothers and sisters as I feel God proved by His deliverance.
>
> I don’t know how much I had, and I don’t know how that was compared to the legal limit. It was really just putting a little in a glass at a time, so I had no measure of how many glasses I did have, I do know that I was not hammered, as others appeared to be.
>
> When we returned, I was the one who was to drive some back. Did I mention I am human and have human weaknesses? These circumstances were unusual as I was not expecting anything like that, and I am not perfect. It is up to God to cover our imperfections.
>
> Hopefully all of you can receive such mercy when your human weaknesses cause you to perhaps run afoul of the law. Unless you are perfect, then you don’t need such mercy.
>
> The cop took me aside away from the other when this happened, mainly because my license was in the trunk, in my rucksack, along with another empty bottle of wine.

This explains a lot, I wonder if you go to AA or are doing the 12 steps on your own?

Yes it does exactly that

Then ask God, I’m pretty sure you have the gift more then you are aware of and He will teach you how to use it, all you have to do is ask. I have seen that very gift though you in this thread.

It is the Spirit of God working through the part of the Body of Christ He desires. So it is for the good of the whole, though that may involve good for the person alone at times.

I asked for alternate explanations, And let me outright state thank you to all that provided them, such as law of very large numbers and coincidences. Part of GD is witnessing, a witness does not have to prove what he/she sees, just stating what they see.

**David42** may I ask what the 42 means in your username?

You promised a scripture quote and we have this one.

First may I ask you apply your test of the spirits to all works of Paul due to the Lord outright stating I don’t stand with Paul on some things. To find out if what Paul is stating is of God or Saul. Paul’s words of the Lord should agree with scriptures, in the case where the Lord does not stand with Paul, Paul outright contradicts Esra 9-10 and the Lord indicated that Paul is on his own here,

Satan has also been called Lucifer, or light bearer. So we do have reason to assume Satan has light, but Satan fell from heaven, does a star still illuminate after it fell to earth? It does say that Satan masquerades as a angel of light in other words the light is not his, but a illusion, and the gifting of discernment of the spirits would reveal that.

Also Micheal does not look like what I would describe like a angel of light, but a mighty warrior of God. So even so it doesn’t fit.

No, you’ve accused me of arrogance but haven’t demonstrated it in any meaningful way. Your complaints over the names I use and the fact that I will sometimes use original languages in exegesis are FRIVOLOUS.

How do you know what credentials I may or may not possess, and why is it so important to you that I appeal to my own authority?

I have never claimed to receive any personal message from Yah, nor have I argued some message from Yah. On the other hand, for the purposes of argument and discssing the issue with kanicbird, I have conceded that kanicbird may have received a message from Yah. On the other hand I have also conceded that kanicbird’s messages may also have a source in delusion or from evil spirits, as well.

I have asked you before just exactly it is you want me to do in order to satisfy you, but you haven’t said what it is I should do. I’m thinking your only answer is shut up. David42 means no more than I’m not David7 or David99.

I do not see any reason to test Paul’s writings that are not from the Lord. He has already said so.

“Light” in the scripture can mean more than just photons. Isn’t light also used to mean knowledge or wisdom? Why can’t “angel of light” mean “angel of wisdom?”

If your gift of discernment is a gift to edify all believers in your opinion, I have to say that in my opinion it does not seem of much help to me. Your method seems to be, “As long as I have Love in my heart, the Holy Spirit assists me.” But my problem with this is, if you’re not testing the spirits as the scripture instructed us either by example or direct instruction, how do you know its the Holy Spirit to begin with? By what means did you determine that it is not satan deceiving you when a spirit identified itself as “the Holy Spirit?”

As some have pointed out, it’s very alarming that you claim to have received a special dispensation to commit crimes and to engage in sinful behavior. This is not any ordinary christian doctrine. Most pastors will tell you what Paul said–to obey the earthly authorities; of course we see exceptions, such as Daniel refusing to obey the law that demanded he kneel before an idol. It’s things like that we are permitted to disobey the earthly authorities about. If Drunk Driving were the equivalent of refusing to bow to an idol, I’d agree with you, but its not. I think there were other ways you could have made sure your group bonded, like being a designated driver and not drinking.

You have your weaknesses, but if Yah wants to use you to bear messages, why wouldn’t he also be helping you to stop drinking?

And then there is this too, kanbicbird:

“Abstain from all appearance of evil.” 1 Thessalonians 5:22

Doesn’t going to stripper parties have an appearance of evil, even if you didn’t lust after the women? Did your participation possibly encourage others to engage in lusting after strippers?

Well, (a) have you actually read the full Psalm in question? I don’t think it says what you think it says. And (b) didn’t Jesus make the rather impressive claim that “I and the Father are one” prompting a bunch of Jews to pick up rocks for to kill him, prompting Jesus to ask which of his works has offended them, prompting them to explain that it’s none of the miracles, but only that claim, prompting Jesus to cite the Psalm in question, prompting them to unconvincedly advance on the guy, prompting him to beat a hasty retreat?

This would be a test of the Spirits with Paul, Jesus hung out with prostitutes and sinners. The Pharisees tried to discredit Jesus based on that. But it is to the sinners that God sends us. We are not called to ignore the way that Jesus has shown, but to take up our cross and follow Him, to be accused as He has been accused and evidently I have been in this thread. Jesus has been called a drunkard, raving mad and demon possessed, He also said we will be called these things, which is what is happening here.

I take the scriptures as a text book, meant to be taught to us by God. He is the teacher. In Paul’s writing, after we get the Holy Spirit we learn about the gifting, and we know that all scripture is useful for among other things instruction. What a better place to allow someone to try out their distinguishing between the spirits gifting then in the book that tells us about that very gifting.

Just because Yehushua was accused of being a drunkard, and demon possessed and raving mad doe not mean that we should ignore others if they perceive that there is a problem in that area.

Yehushua did hang out with sinners. But his purpose wasn’t to hang out with them to encourage sin. What would you think if the scripture had Yehushua instead of teaching prostitutes, had him preparing for an orgy? I can just imagine it; “hang on brother, let me fetch you a condom before you pork that ho.”

The difference is that you didn’t go to a stripper party to discourage your friends from sinning. You went to facilitate their sinning, did you not, as you were responsible for preparations? You may claim that you are beyond lust, but what of the other attendees? And indeed, if they are beyond lust, why have a stripper party at all? Please don’t at this late date tell me that you and your friends were actually spending your money to tell the stripper to keep her clothes on and instead listen to you attempt to persude her to turn her life toward Yah. You have really left that part out. I also think you’d have previously defended your action by saying so–we didn’t have the party to see some tits and ass, we had the party to save the stripper.

Because when I tried to escape, you asked me direct questions, which I felt compelled to answer.

And this: believers and non-believers can attempt to claim superior intellect over one another for days, but that isn’t a path to understanding. And your deliberate use of uncommon terms is a pain in the ass to read, and does look like showing off. It’s tiresome. In truth there is nothing to understanding the text of the Bible in any translation, no different than studying Shakespeare, Homer, Blake, etc. Scholars study the historical and geographical context, cultural influences and cross-reference other events and works of the time for a cohesive picture of what the numerous parables meant at the time it was written and throughout each translation. Expert references are also consulted and considered, which goes miles beyond ploughing through the text on faith alone and claming expertise.

Unless one has a knack for Greek and Latin, your claim that one must master those languages in order to read the Bible correctly is equivalent to sporting hair shirts or kneeling on pencils. If it rewards you in some way to put in the extra work, good for you. But I can easily find reliable translations from those fluent in Greek and Latin, and the study of same is extra work I haven’t the time or inclination to pursue and would add nothing to my understanding of a literary work. One needn’t toil or suffer over the study of a literary work, unless one has the ulterior motive of self-flagellation or scoring extra credit with God.

Your claim that spiritual insight lends you a superior knowledge or authority is ludicrous; religious devotion does not equal scholarly investigation. If anything, that bias prevents you from accepting alternate sources as legitimate, insightful exegesis.

Aside from all that, there comes a point wherein non-believers have to concede that we have little to no understanding of the spiritual dimension believers claim, because it is easy enough to compare that esoteric feeling to the quantifiable reaction of any endorphin rush. Good food, a runner’s high, great sex, or even drugs can arouse similar, measurable results. We are wired to seek pleasure. It’s that simple. If it pleases you to ascribe some metaphysical outside influence to those feelings: go for it. But once this topic is proposed to both believers and non, we are expected to accept the idea of an immeasurable, personal revelation shared by none other than the supposed recipient. Well who can argue that? There’s only one witness. And yet you’ve been picking apart another Christian’s personal revelation, countering his claims with “evidence” of Satanic influence… it’s the blind men arguing over the elephant again. You can ask a sighted person to describe the event, or you two can go round and round. Unless you are a mind reader or have a time machine, your take on _kanicbird_’s episodes is as _exactly_ as logical as his own.

I think it certainly can, as Satan appeared to come to Eve with a illusion of wisdom, though Jesus showed him to be a lire.

What did Satan tell Eve that proved to be the words of a “lire”?

One year I decided to not go, and state outright my objection based on standard Christian doctrine. The event still happened. After which I got the message taht I should have gone because the Lord has made me immune to lust (at least lust at that level) and I could have been useful for Him. The following year I went, though I tried to not go, let my g/f know I didn’t want to go but felt that I should go. Even though she objected to stripper parties in general she told me I need to go.

So while there one of the strippers came over to me and started a lap dance, in my eyes it was as if she was a totally innocent and young child, I was seeing her soul as Jesus sees her soul, just caught up in worldly ways, but with the innocence of a child. It was a amazing experience of God that I am very privileged to be a part of.

Jesus didn’t specifically call that instance a lie.

However

I would contend when Satan said ‘surely you will not die’, it was a lie, as they died that day.

To me anything except eternal life that God has promised is death, just under the mercy of God, God stretches it out to give us the time we need to come around.
