B.B. I saw him live many, many times. He was always a fun performer. He was having a good time, and everyone else was going to have a good time too. I enjoyed his music as well. I didn’t use his set as the opportunity to get my beverage. I actually watched and listened.
I went with Albert. When I was starting out on guitar SRV was at his peak and I listened to him a lot. I learned that Albert was a big influence on Stevie so when I explored Albert’s stuff it sounded really good. To this day when I play, it’s largely (poorly executed attempts at) Albert licks.
Freddie–because of Hideaway riff which is fun, and EASY, to play.
I will not choose, you can’t make me!
I picked Freddy.
Albert. He’s what I hear in other musicians that I like.
Ah, but the break in the middle, where he does the funky 7th-ish chord at the 12the fret, and then cops a pedal-steel two string lick down the neck to be ready to shift to the A chord in the groove? I’ve been working on that for over 30 years. I can play it just fine, but to play it like Freddie?
That’s the beauty part - the main lick is straightforward, you get competent and shit, and then you have the next-level stuff to figure out. He pulls me in. Same with his song The Stumble.
I like B.B.'s playing the best and Freddie’s singing.
BB may not play the best but he is a complete joy to listen to. He makes Lucille sing and his voice ain’t bad either.
