Corn-related? I want corn itself! Real, fresh sweet corn, from one of our fields, picked in the afternoon and cooked & served for supper that same day. With butter, salt & pepper on it. Dang – now I’m really hungry for that, and it’s 5 or 6 months until it’s available. ---

I’m goin’ with corn starch. In thickening sauces, for drying and lubricating babies’ butts, and as a raw material for packaging foam and inflatable bags, it’s wonderful. Add the marvelously weird viscosity characteristics of corn starch suspensions, and you’ve got one of the world’s wonders. ---

[/QUOTE] Oh, you just had to bring that up a half hour before I go grocery shopping, didn’t you? Purgatory Man will know who to blame for all the junk food I buy now. Every year our neighbors bring over a couple dozen ears of fresh sweet corn and then tell us which field they’ve planted it in this year and tell us to help ourselves. There’s nothing as delicious as same-day sweet corn roasted in its husks, dripping with butter. Other than that, hot cornbread with honey butter like they used to serve at Professor Munchies’ in Minneapolis back in the 80’s gets my vote. ---

The only cornbread I have ever had was the stuff from the el cheapo chain _Boston Market_. It was fantastic like a bread morphed into a cake. My son and I used to go once a fortnight for the cornbread really. _Boston Market_ went broke and I have never had cornbread again. There is no need to tell me that the _Boston Market_ cornbread was ersatz cornbread. We realized it was some lowest common denominator variant but by golly it was good. ---

[/QUOTE] This is almost word-for-word what I thought on reading the OP, so I thought it best to see if anybody else felt the same. I have yet to read other replies, so I may be repeating. After the real thing itself, and not in this particular order, I like: Fritos originals Tacos Hominy Grits Popcorn Karo syrup – the clear version Niblets – has to be Niblets for canned corn There are others, for sure, and I may have to ditto somebody else’s post before this one is the last in the stack. ---

Cornbread, yes. Made with white cornmeal and buttermilk, poured into spitting-hot shortening (or bacon drippings, even better) in the black iron skillet. Crispy on the bottom, moist and tasty inside. It’s the food of the gods. ---
