The instrumental intro to this is really good (One Night In Bangkok).
Gabriel Yared satisfys all my instrumental needs.
Here are two by The Ventures that are instantly recognizeable:
Walk Don’t Run - The Ventures
Wipeout - The Ventures
Another classic surf music instrumental is:
Pipeline - The Chantay’s (mentioned by Octalcode above)
And of course,
Misirlou - Dick Dale and the Del Tones
All excellent, though I prefer the original version of “Wipeout” by the Surfaris to the cover by the Ventures.
w/re “Pipeline,” there’s a splendid cover of that on the soundtrack of a really crappy 1987 movie called “Back to the Beach” with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello. The only redeeming thing about that turkey is Dick Dale and Stevie Ray Vaughan trading licks on “Pipeline.” Absolutely amazing! You can hear a little piece of it here.
And then, there’s one of my all-time faves, “Telstar”, by the Tornados - the first U.S. number one single by a British group.
Much better clip of Dick Dale and SRV doing “Pipeline” here.
Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis
It’s the most beautiful piece of instrumental music ever written, IMHO.
I’m partial to SRV’s Little Wing.
Saltarello by Dead Can Dance
Oscillate Wildly by The Smiths
Right you are, and here it is.
The soundtrack from “Edward Scissorhands.”
“Sleepwalk,” done by The Ventures
Anything by Tangerine Dream or October Project
Dr Draw. Pretty much anything by him. Some of his music has singing, but not much.
My sister, who lives in Honolulu, introduced me to Hawaiian slack key guitar. I love this stuff. You can hear some samples here.
Outside of classical, the Vitamin String Quartet’s Tribute to Tool. Stunningly exotic-sounding stuff - always draws a crowd when I have it on speakers.
How about the theme to “Hawaii Five-O”?
Axel F
A Fifth of Beethoven (no not Beethoven’s fifth although that’s pretty good too.)
Chariots of Fire
**Rumble **-- Link Wray
**Apache **-- The Shadows
Black Napkins – Frank Zappa
Friendly Little Finger - FZ
Watermelon In Easter Hay – FZ
**Frankenstein **-- Edgar Winter
Green Onions -Booker T & The MGs
**Moonshine Sonata **-- Black Oak Arkansas
**Walk Don’t Run
Pipeline
Wipe Out **-- Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers’ versions of these 3
I don’t know if you guys would count it becuase there are spoken word samples, but nothing quiets me like either of The Books’s albums. I would classify them as instrumental however.
Sublime.
Oh, and Spencer Krug’s Fifths of Seven. Also wonderful.
