I have 4 pairs of Allen Edmonds and a couple pairs of Cole Haan’s. The AE’s definitely will last through several resoles. Resoling and reconditioning is about $50-75 per pair. Not bad considering a typical pair of AE, new, runs about $200+. ---

I love my [Allen Edmonds](http://www.allenedmonds.com/) too. I just wish they’d make their “York” style zipper boots again. Every time they bring them out again, I stock up with a few pairs. ---

I swear by my Bass Weejuns, and wear them almost every day (one black pair and one cordovan). If you polish them once a month, and resole them every other year, they will last forever. Best of all, the only get more comfortable. ---

Let me tell you about Allen Edmunds: up until three years ago, I routinely bought Bostonians or some other major, decidedly mid-range brand. I would get less than a year of hard use out of them before they were just done for. I bought a pair of Park Avenue black captoes about two and a half years ago, and have worn them on average 4 times a week for the entire time. They are just now starting to look a little tired, and I haven’t even had to have them resoled. I’m going to send them in to be refurbished in a couple weeks, but I am just shocked at the great quality of these shoes. I see no need to ever buy another brand.
