Your favorite obsolete computer program/utility.

I remember XTree. Come to think of it, I don’t remember how I got to know MS DOS so well back then when XTree was available.

Back in the Amiga days there was a frontend for Amiga DOS called Directory Opus, which made it quick and easy to manipulate files and directories. To this day I still open a couple of windows side-by-side when I start my PC, to simulate the functionality of Directory Opus. Searching for the image I linked to, I discovered that there is now a Directory Opus for Windows. I’ll have to check it out.

Hmmm. It seems that the new Directory Opus is greatly overpriced with obnoxious copy protection. Ah, well.

I’m still using Quicken 2004, for myself and several non-profit organizations.

I’ve looked at the newer versions, and they don’t have anything in them that I find worth paying for. And they have things I dislike, like moving from an open, supported export file format (QIF) to a proprietary one.

I was a big fan of this as well. These days though, you might want to check out FastStone Image Viewer. I like it as much as I ever liked ACDSee classic, and much better than IrfanView.
