Yes. We periodically dial up another one on Netflix, only to swear never-again, again… that show hugged and loved and treasured everything intolerable about earlier Trek franchises. (Mostly the totally encapsulated episodes; NOTHING ever ended up changed.)
But I could watch the title sequence over and over. Magnificent music, so much more understated than TOS or TNG, and such lovely, inspiring images. About the only better moment is in the DS9 title sequence, where the station first comes into view - tiny, overwhelmed, even “all alone in the night.”
The Prisoner, with Jonny Quest a close second.
Someone beat me to it.
This is the first thing that occurred to me as well.
The tribal chanting of the Survivor theme has always seemed appropriate to me.
On the lighter side, I’ve always liked Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show theme, which I’ve just now discovered is actually much longer than what is actually shown on air.
I don’t particularly care for the show Weeds, but ‘Little Boxes’ has always played in my head whenever I drove through any particularly garish housing development before I ever saw one episode.
And then there is Airwolf.
The various G. I. Joe opening sequences are among my favorites.
Remember the one from G.I. Joe- The Movie? Best of them all, in my opinion.
Dilbert was extremely good. You can find more clever stuff on repeated viewings.
The genius of the Game of Thrones opening is this:
You have a TV show based on a epic fantasy doorstopper series. What do they always put at the beginning of a volume? A map. What do they put at the start of each episode of the series based on the books? Also a map. Watching the opening sequence is exactly like leafing to the map every hundred pages or so, just to keep track of where the characters are. It’s perfect.
That’s technically a movie intro, but yeah… No other intro comes close.
Barney Miller, too. I liked the opening theme, and my dad would always jump up and go to the TV and point to his office building when the showed the New York skyline.
The Sopranos opening, with Tony driving past various Jersey sites while “Woke Up This Morning” plays - utterly perfect. I’ve seen hundreds of times and it still gives me a little thrill.
Ooh, that reminds me. Jack Of All Trades
That’s interesting. I was about to mention all the ST series . . . except TOS.
Oh, man, I totally forgot about that show! Thanks for the reminder…
Hardly qualifies as an opening sequence, but seeing the word “LOST” coming spinning out of my screen always gave me chills.
No one’s mentioned any anime so far. I’ve watched certain shows long past the point where they were actually interesting just because I enjoyed the opening sequence so much.
