I don’t think anyone’s mentioned My Bologna, which, if IIRC, was the first song released by him. Fairly sure it was on Dr. Demento.
[nitpick]
If you’re implying that you were listening to Dr. D. in the late '70s when Another One Rides the Bus was first broadcast, can’t be; Queen’s The Game (where Another One Bites the Dust appears) wasn’t released until 1980. You’ve got your dates wrong, I’m afraid.

I love Weird Al…am I the only woman to find him sexually attractive? I mean, I’d SOOOO do him!!!
Anyway, one of my favorite songs by him is “Alternative Polka”, especially the part where he turns “Closer” by NIN into a polka song, lol :D:D:D
This is the perfect thread for me. I’m an Al aficianado (there should be a magazine called that) from way back. Anyway, my favorites (No, I can’t choose one.):
[ul]
[li]Amish Paradise We’re all crazy Mennonites/Living in an Amish paradise. Best thing to come out of rap.[/li][li]It’s All About The Pentiums. Another of my favorites. How about these little gems: Got a flat-screen monitor, 40" wide/I believe that yours says, “Etch-A-Sketch” on the side[/li][li]Spam (Great song, you can’t go wrong with lyrics like Spam in the place where I work. (you’re obsessed)/[/li]Think about the way it’s processed, wonder if it’s some kind of meat.)
[li]Everything You Know is Wrong. Very surreal, not to mention hilarious.[/li][li]Cavity Search. How about these lyrics: Listenin’ to the Muzak/Hearin’ people scream. Simple genius.[/li][li]Since You’ve Been Gone. How about this: It couldn’t hurt any more if you shoved/A red hot cactus up my nose.[/li][li]Buckingham Blues. One of his great obscure works.[/li][li]Jerry Springer. Maybe it’s like watching a train wreck, but I like hearing: It’s just as low as you can go/The guests are tacky and they’re lacking in their hygiene[/li][/ul]
Anyway, that’s just a few I can think of.
Um … er … well … (oh, I know!) 1980 was part of the '70s! You know, like how the year 2000 is still part of the 20th century 'cause the 21st century doesn’t start until 2001? Yeah, that’s it, that’s the ticket!
(Whew, got outta that one by the skin of my teeth.)
But whatever date it was, and however many other radio stations Dr. Demento was being networked to when it happened, I was listening the night Weird Al first performed “Another One Rides the Bus.” I remember it distinctly, because I had not heard Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” at that point, and so I had absolutely no idea what Al was parodying.
And a few months later, with “Another One Rides the Bus” in the Number One position in Dr. Demento’s Top Ten for the umpteenth time, I had a dream about a killer bus in which I heard the first song I went on to write on my own, titled “Don’t Ride the Bus.” No relation whatsoever to Weird Al’s song, noooooo…
