Loved Wing Commander, probably spent about as much time playing it as I did Aces of the Deep. I also played Wing Commander:Privateer a lot. Though I never went in for the main story line of that one.

Haven’t played LOTRO in a while but last played on Arkenstone (after Windfola closed down).

[Dungeon Master](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeon_Master_(video_game)) was another favorite of mine back in the day. I still recall how one creature (apparently [officially](http://dmweb.free.fr/games/dungeon-master/solutions/creatures/#oitu) called an “Oitu”) got the family nickname Critter because that’s what my mother called them when she saw them. And I liked the feel of casting spells by linking magical symbols together.

The [King’s Field](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King%27s_Field) games, or rather the ones released in America. Most never made it out of Japan, apparently. One detail I liked was that just about every place and object in the game had lore for itself that you could use a magic mirror to find out. Also the large labyrinths full of traps were fun to explore. And the music was good.

_Jane’s USAF_ and _DiD F-22 ADF_ fighter jet games in the 1990s. IMHO, _F-22 ADF_ still beats nearly any fighter jet flight sim today in terms of its simplicity, AWACS gameplay, intuitiveness, and realism for its time.

> I might actually fire up a career with all of the realism turned down. I wonder what happens if you sail into Kiel one last time after May 8th, 1945. I know you can’t affect the outcome of the war. I’ve had careers where I’ve sunk more than the total tonnage the Kriegsmarine sank, I still can’t live past about August 1943. I kind of wonder if the oom-pah band will still be there.

Heh, I did the opposite. I kept the realism on 100%, and did the normal gaming thing of returning to my last save point each time I was sunk. When I reached April 1945, I tried to be stingy, and stay out on patrol until May 8th. But I found a convoy on sonar, and so I tracked and attacked them. I screwed up while tangling with 3 escort vessels, and after I sank two, the thrid sank me on April 17th, Apparently when you’re sunk that late in the war, you get a freebie. I was awarded with a cinematic scene of my sub pulling into what appears to be Bergen, Norway (my last home port), with no oom-pah band or any greeters at all. Then you get a screen with a nice letter from Donitz saying you’ve done great, your next orders will come from the Allied Command.

Oh, I am so happy to be done with this time sink of a game.
