(Old) Your first furniture in the MMP

Happy Saturday! At 9:51am it’s slightly overcast and 78°F, but the expected high is only 87: I’m still a little traumatized from last weekend’s triple-digit temps, so I’ll take it!

Except for seeing my dad on brother on Father’s Day, I’ve spent the last 5-6 weeks either at work or at home alone…today, though, I actually have plans! This afternoon I’m meeting an artist friend at her storage space: I’ve had a 48" x 24" painting of hers for the last eight years, and it was the perfect size in my old place but it’s kind of small for the wall I have it on here. She’s going to let me look at what else she has from the same period/style, and see if I can find two complementary – but not complimentary  – pieces to hang on either side. I’m hoping for 24" squares. She sent me photos of some options, but I really need to see them in person.

Afterwards, I might go to The Container Store. I could use some countertop and under-sink organization stuff, and I love The Container Store. But I’ll see how long the art excursion takes, and whether I feel up to more people-ing.

Whenever I get back home, there will be Lego: yesterday I started building the Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops. And I might have put together a new display shelf unit, with two more standing by in their boxes.

I have plans tomorrow, too (who am I?!): I’m meeting an old friend for lunch at our favorite Thai place, out near where she lives (~27 miles from me). She has early afternoon plans, so we’ll meet at 11am. We’re “ticket buddies”: a few times a year we go to theater or live music performances together, but we haven’t been to anything in a while and don’t have any imminent plans. We almost went to a “Magic of Motown” show today, but the only seats left weren’t worth it for imitation Motown. Whenever there’s a long stretch between shows, we make an effort to get together and catch up. She’s the only friend I have who isn’t on any social media sites.

Yesterday I meant to mention that I’ve never felt invisible or had (real) trouble seeing while driving a sporty/small car. Sometimes if I’m in heavy traffic behind a truck or SUV I’ll change lanes to be behind a smaller vehicle just so I can see more of what’s ahead, but 99% of the time there’s no downside to being in a two-door. I’d rather be low and fast.

I’d call that a motel.

HA!

(FCM, I’d definitely need a kit/set: I could never design it myself!)

I think that’s the 3.5-oz bag setting on this microwave (I’ve noticed that the wattage is a bit higher than my old microwave’s). For whatever reason, my old microwave never showed how much time the “popcorn” button was set for: it didn’t display any countdown until 30 seconds before it was done, at which time it would also beep.

I’ve figured out most of the lights/switches here. There’s still one switch, in the garage, that’s a mystery: it seems to do nothing, and there’s no obvious outlet or broken light fixture it might control. It doesn’t bother me, though. If I ever need to have an electrician here for something else, I’ll try to remember to ask if they can figure it out.

The only other mystery involves the upstairs hall light. It has three switches: one at the bottom of the stairs, one at the top of the stairs, and one near the master bedroom. Apparently, using the one near the master bedroom somehow “breaks” the other two: I’ve used it to turn the light off, only to then not be able to turn the light back on with either of the other switches until I flip it. It’s kind of annoying, because discovering that made me realize that I probably didn’t have to change those lightbulbs the other week after all (I thought they were burned out, but it was probably just the switch thing). Also, if they all worked normally I’d most often turn the light off near the bedroom and turn it on at the bottom of the stairs. But right now I can’t be bothered to figure out the combo/how to use all three: for the time being I’m simply not touching the switch near the bedroom (I use a guard to help) and I only use the switches at the top/bottom of the stairs.

Ok, that’s way worse than my hall light situtation! :joy:

That sounds awesome! I haven’t ridden a coaster in I don’t remember how long. If I’m ever near one again, though, I would.

Good on ya. :two_hearts:

When I was a broke college student I worked at a store in the mall that would have been soooooo easy to steal from. I often worked entire shifts without eating because I couldn’t afford to bring or buy anything; I lived on campus and had a meal plan, and could only afford to eat at the school’s cafeteria. We sold kitchen gadgets and tchotchkes (anyone remember Lechters?), and I would get so jealous of the customers who blithely handed over $20 bills to pay for $2 items! I spent way too much time planning The Perfect Crime…I just wanted to go buy myself a bagel sandwich at the food court. And I could have pulled it off, with impunity, but I was always too honest to actually do it. Stupid morals.

Oh wow, I haven’t heard the name of that chain in quite a while!

My 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six has 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. And also does the throaty growl thing. I’m good.

I want to change the plastic toilet seat in the master bathroom: a new wooden one was just delivered on Thursday. Same model I installed in my old place, so I know what to expect. I might get around to it this weekend. There are three other toilets in this house, but I don’t use any of them nearly as often and I’ll hardly ever have company: those plastic seats can remain, at least for now. Heh.
