Not sure if I have any, sadly. If I do, they’re probably in hardcopy, and stuffed away in a box who-knows-where.

When I worked at the bank we would dress up on Halloween and raise money for some charity. One year I went as a deviled egg. Big white piece of felt for the body, yellow felt for the middle, red horns and devil tail and a plastic pitchfork. People either got it right away or I had to explain it.

As an adult my wife and I went to a Halloween party. I had actual foliage glued all over some old clothes. She was dressed as a game bird. We were Bush and Quayle. I’ll let you guess the year.

Mom made me a great Batman costume (Adam West version) when I was 7 or 8. I asked her to make me another when I was a teenager; she told me to make it myself.

1965 or so, I was sporting the Army Surplus Vampire Jerry Colonna Mustache look.

11 or 12 (around '77)…while the gaggle I set out with wore something, I just wore my normal everyday clothing, and whenever (usually unimpressed) folks at the door asked about what my deal was, I replied I’m going around as the average Canadian boy. With a quite-often bemused delay on their parts, they still dished out the goods.

I just remember the cheap, thin, plastic masks we wore in the 1970s and 1980s. They were terrible. All the moisture from your nose would accumulate inside the mask, making it unbearable.

Zorro, because I got to wear a rubber sword. I’m not sure why Mom thought Zorro wore a belted tunic, but I didn’t care.

1965 or so, I was seven. The most popular after-school show was **Captain 11** from Sioux Falls, a cartoon clip show hosted by Captain 11. Captain 11 dressed as a space pilot in an airman’s outfit with headphones; he was also Channel 11’s weatherman (hence the name). Kids could sit in the studio or send in letters, and he would show cartoons like _Popeye, Snagglepuss, Deputy Dawg,_ etc.

One year he had a poster contest about Halloween safety. My mother suggested “Never carry a lighted jack-o-lantern”, so I drew a picture of a boy doing that and sent it in. I won! The bad news: I was still on the school bus when my name was announced, so I didn’t know about it until the next day at school. The good news: I got a (cheap) Popeye costume with a facemask and a plastic can of spinach. It was my first “commercial” character costume.

Years later, I was in college. I wore the dress suitcoat and hat from my marching band uniform, and a pair of headphones over the hat. Everyone at the party immediately recognized that I was Captain 11!

2008; my wife and I were invited to a Halloween costume party, where the theme was “Heroes and Villains.” She did some cosplay, and she had a Captain Jack Sparrow costume for herself, which I suggested she wear. “Well, I could wear that, but what will _you_ go as?”

My brain thought, “I could go as Will Turner (Orlando Bloom in the _Pirates of the Caribbean_ films),” but what came out of my mouth was, “I could go as Keira Knightley.”

One of my wife’s cosplay friends had made herself a copy of the fancy purple dress which the pirates made Elizabeth Swann (Keira’s character) wear in the first PotC movie, and it actually fit me. I wore the dress, I wore the corset underneath it, I wore a long, wavy wig, and my wife did my makeup.

My wife makes a pretty good Jack Sparrow. I made for a frightening Elizabeth Swann, but 18 years later, our friends still talk about the shock value. 😃 Also, my female friends who were at that party still marvel at how long my eyelashes are, and how good they looked once my wife had put mascara on them.

Hehe, I loved my Cylon one of those. Wore the mask for playing Battlestar Galactica several times before it wore out.

My favorite costume was really from my early 20s, though. It was a riff on how lame Dr. Who’s monsters were. Me and my then girlfriend, now wife made vests out of aluminum foil, then crammed oranges in the legs of pantyhose that we then wore on our head. Yes, we had to explain what we were to everyone. I still liked the costume.

In elementary school, my older brother made me a robot costume with various blinking lights and sounds. I could wear it to school, but it was too hard to move around in, so I did something else for trick or treating. Back in the 60s and early 70s, no one in our area bought costumes from stores.

When I was in college, a friend had a party at his house, and I dressed as a mummy. I got some old sheets from a thrift store, aged them, and had my brother help wrap me up. I wore white pants and a shirt underneath No one guessed who I was until I started to speak.
