Your greatest sports stories thread

First of all, the USSR was by far the greatest “amateur” hockey team at the time and we were playing with college students so for a fair comparison you would have to compare Team USA to a team taken from college basketball players. It was also a time where the USSR was our sworn enemy and at a time where (as I remember it) it was almost embarrassing to be an American. We had allowed Iran to take our embassy hostage. We we suffering from stagflation. We had just gotten through the Nixon debacle and were being led by Jimmy Carter. So the closest comparison I could think of is if a collection of North Korean college basketball players were to beat Team USA.
