Grilled cheese sandwiches can have a little bacon or ham on them, by the way. They’re still grilled (not “toasted.” Toasting uses dry, indirect heat, browning in pan with fat is not toasting it’s “pan grilling” or “griddling”). It’s still better to call them “grilled ham and cheese,” or “grilled cheeses with bacon,” or whatever than just grilled cheese.

Those are BINOs. The only difference between them and Arby’s usual roast beef sandwiches is the type of bun and the optional addition of lettuce and tomato.

If I seem a little peeved about this distinction it’s because I was duped into buying one of those. I stupidly expected it would be a ground beef patty that had been _roasted_. (BTW, is it even possible to cook a ground beef patty this way?)

From the “Piss me off something fierce” file:

I bought some awesome steaks the other day – the kind that I would generally _never_ buy, but they were on such a great sale that I splurged. They’ve been marinating since this morning, and in a little over an hour I’ll be firing up the grill and cooking those babies up to perfection.

But thanks to this thread, all I can think about is how good a fucking grilled cheese sandwich would taste right now.

I’ve never heard that term being restricted to a single type of cheese. As long as you have a meat patty and some cheese to melt on it, it’s a patty melt.

I also want to point out the OP is silly. They aren’t calling it grilled cheese. They’re calling it a grilled cheese Thick **burger**. Notice the bold. That’s the important. They’re saying this is what you get when you add a (thick)burger to a grilled cheese sandwich.

It doesn’t matter what their advertising is like. Every single organization out there has had an ad that was stupid. You really can’t go around not using any of them. Well, at least, I can’t afford to only go to places that don’t advertise.

And it’s not like you’re actually accomplishing anything, anyways.

The joke is that he has to get it from the kids menu and it comes with crayons and a milk making him look dorky. Now, if Hardees was selling a cheese sandwich, it would make sense, but they’re not, they are selling a cheeseburger. The part that gets me is in the original restaurant where they actually have cheese sandwiches, the other people are eating cheeseburgers! Why didn’t the doofus who apprarently actually wanted a cheeseburger (not a cheese sandwich, which they also had), just order what his friends had?
> Yes, when I watch it at home I scream “THEY ALREADY HAVE FUCKING CHEESEBURGERS!!!” Then I notice the kids are in the room, crying, my wife covers her face and runs out of the room screaming “You’re tearing us apart!” You need help!" But I just quietly smirk, knowing that I am right.

I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing the commercial, but it does sound entertainingly stupid (or stupidly entertaining).

Me, I stopped eating at Hardees several years ago after their baseline service level went from inconsistent to generally poor to “Hello, does anybody fucking _work_ here??”

But not because of a commercial. It’s not like it’s offensive or racist or political – just dumb. What I don’t get is why a dumb commercial would cause somebody to _not_ eat someplace where they ordinarily _would_ eat. I like Quizno’s sandwiches, whether I like their ads or not, so I eat them. It’s like you’re depriving _yourself_ of food you like to punish _them_ for misusing the term “grilled cheese.” Does not compute.

Come to sacramento for an actual grilled cheese burger:

The Squeeze Inn (once featured on Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins) makes your burger, then they put an obscenbne amount of sharp cheddar on it, throw some ice on the grill and cover. The cheese is on the burger annd then as you can see off to the side, all grilled up to the pinanacle of tastiness. So in the case the word Grilled in Grilled cheese sandwich is modifying the word cheese and not the word sandwich.

Goddamn. I’m going to a nice restaurant with a friend tonight, and now I want to go home and make myself a nice cheese sammich. Failing that, haul my butt to the deli a couple blocks away from here for lunch.

I hadn’t THOUGHT about grilled cheese sammiches in months.

I’m sorry, marinating steaks is just wrong. You will never be in my clan. 😛

I’m on board with any food item that loosely translates to ‘‘Mr. Crunchy.’’

I went to the grocery store but for the life of me I couldn’t find Gruyere cheese. Or pronounce it for that matter.

Either way, looks like it’s grilled provolone tonight!

It completely depends on the cut of meat. I would never marinate a strip, filet, porterhouse or ribeye, but you can bet your ass I’m marinating a flank steak.

The poster did say “the kind I would never generally buy”, so that either means an alternative cut of meat or something really expensive, which would be my aforementioned “don’t marinate” four cuts I listed above.

I wouldn’t get down on someone for trying something different, though. It’s just not for me.

Anyone ever used this on a steak? Divine.

Has anyone considered that the term ‘grilled cheese’ is itself not fully descriptive of the product you’re all talking about?

I mean, if you just take cheese and grill it, it melts and drips through the bars.

I watched a chef do that once. Scraped off the grill - this time laid down the bread on the grill THEN put the cheese down.
