Your happiest sounding song with the saddest lyrics...

One of John Lennon’s peppiest tunes to some of the worst lyrics he ever wrote: Run for Your Life, the happiest-sounding song about stalking and domestic violence and threatened murder ever. As it’s the last song on Rubber Soul it’s easy enough to skip, but the tune is so darn catchy. . .

“Well, I’d rather see you dead little girl then to be with another man.” Ugh.

Semi-Charmed Kind of Life by Third Eye Blind. It sounds pretty peppy and upbeat till you find out it’s about Methamphetamines.

And I don’t know if anybody in the world listened to this group but me, but Lucky Boy’s Confusion has a song called Not About Debra that sounds like a pop/salsa mix with lyrics about a guy who beats his girlfriend.

Ben Folds has been playing a slow, subdued version of Song for the Dumped as an encore on his current tour. He prefaces it by saying “It’s a sad song, so I re-wrote it in a minor key.”

Great show BTW.
