It was Christmas time my first year of college and I was broke. I was on my way to the grocery store and looked down to find $50 bill on the ground. I felt so guilty finding someone else’s money I couldn’t spend any on myself, so I spent it all on Christmas presents.
Last year I paid back the finding money gods by loosing the money my Mom sent me for my birthday.
I once found three 100 guilder (140 Euro’s, some 180 Dollars) bills on a bicycle path. It was one of those cases where you ca’t believe your eyes: “there’s aother one!”. A guy cycling by couldn’t believe his eyes too, but was too late :-0.This was when I was still a student, around '84, so it was a considerable amount of money. I actually went to the police station to see if someone declared it lost. Interestingly enough, in a fit of honesty the cop told me to take the money home “since it’ll disappear when you leave it here”. Nobody ever claimed it. I think I spent it on hardware for my ZX Spectrum…
I actually make an effort to leave a few bucks in coat pockets at the end of the season. Makes for pleasantness the next time the weather gets cold. . .
