Argentina, hmmmmm, would that be the team that could only beat England by having their star player use his hand to put the ball into the opposition goal ? As for the other goal in that match, well it was a superb goal, one of the best of all time, but it was still only one goal and Argentina needed the hand assist to avoid a drawn match. Let me see if I can explain why the UK reaction. Manchester United were playing Deportivo la Coruna in a match divided across two legs, one in Spain and one in England. In the first leg Deportivo players ‘accidently’ took out the two most influencial players in the Manchester United team with incredibly similar tackles, both of which were sending-off-worthy offences. Both tackles hit the players after the ball had left their possesion, so the idea that the offenders were trying to win the ball is simply not viable, and both tackles were aimed just above the ankles and were both two feet in at one go attempts. Those tackles were so violent that one playmaker, Roy Keane, was unable to take part in the second match, and the other playmaker very nearly did not. As it was, during the first match, both of them had to retire. For any world class side this double blow would have been a serious impairment of team playing ability. One of those terrible tackles was made when it was already clear that Manchester United would win the first match, and it was widely seen in the UK as petulance and hubris in response to being beaten. Onwards to the second match, and David Beckham has been able to play, his injury healed up in time. Manchester United score and are leading one to nil, and surprise surprise, Duscher the Deprtivo player made one incredibly late and horrendous tackle in almost a carbon copy version of the disgraceful events in the first match. Note too that in the second match there were several missed attempts at such appalling behaviour by Deportivo players. Duscher was later sent off for taking a wild clip at the heels of the later goalscorer Ole Gunnar Solskaear (and ironically the replacement for Beckham). Ole was running past Duschamps having outflanked him and was headed toward the goal when this ocurred. I will add that there are no double standards here, when David Beckham reacted to a violent tackle which left him flat on the floor, he retaliated, it was very mild and the Argentine player clearly took a dive, but the fact is that Beckham was sent off and deservedly so. It took two matches and a whole series of utterly disgraceful and cynical illegal tackLing before Duscher was sent off, and even then the ref had made a mistake because he had sent off another Deportivo player earlier, mistaking him for the offender. There is no nationality issue here, just shite play by a team who are supposed to be among the elite in Europe, a standard they fell woefully below both in ability and in spirit. Quite frankly when you look at the way Deportivo operated in seems clear to me that they were frightened of Manchester United’s ability and were under instructions to even the odds up by deliberately and illegally taking out the two main sources of concern. To me I feel that UEFA should look at both those matches and then ban Deportivo from Europen competition for at least the next trophy series for which they qualify. I really do hope that Duscher comes across Lee Bowyer whom I can almost hear sharpening up his elbows
 
and if Argentina is such a great place for football and a wonderful country, why do all their top players come to Europe?

Yeah, like you have such a lot to boast about, methinks you should keep your gob shut and let the team do its talking on the field of play, they are plenty good enough, who knows, if they keep their boots out of axle grease and actually fit studs on their boots they might even be able to stay upright when an opposing player approaches them. Good grief, what a fucking joke, and they call them great _sportsmen_ ---

The Brits lost the island in the first place, then lost an embarrasing amount of their shiny new destroyers to the Arg air force’s 10 year old + planes firing FRENCH missles (that makes it even worse). Of course the Arg navy lost ALL of their navy, shiny new or not (actually getting to utter the immortal phrase “you sank my battleship” in all seriousness). They also lost the island to an opponent with a huge supply line issue and even were spotted plenty of advanced notice of the brit fleet’s arrival (cripes it was televised. . . ). Overall, a bunch of good people died over a crap-hole rocky island filled with sheep. Stupid, if you ask me. But then again, you didn’t so I will shut up now. _-me_ :rolleyes: ---
