As a resident of NC in the early 80s, I was at quite a few Arrogance concerts. Their bassist and vocalist, Don Dixon, went on to a solo career and noted work as a producer. One of Dixon’s solo tracks was “Your Sister Told Me,” a bouncy pop tune that I enjoy hearing. But…I have never figured out what he’s singing in the chorus. Two of the four lines are pretty obvious. What the heck he’s singing in the other two has been a complete mystery to me for over 40 years. I used to think one line may be, “Oh, I’ve seen the light most days without you,” but I later decided I was wrong. And I have other recordings of the same song, both by Dixon solo and Arrogance as a group, where the chorus seems to be completely different words. Most lyrics sites offer a selection of garbled phrases followed by a big question mark. ---

Well, I still think it means that (I wouldn’t presume to speak for Crissy Hynde). In my opinion, some misheard lyrics really impact the meaning of a song, but I think ‘hamster nursey’ fits right in there. To be fair ‘Hamstead Nursey’ is a pretty regional reference that I wouldn’t have understood even if I’d heard it. Pants! ---

One I just remembered, from years ago. When I was a little kid I listened to the soundtrack of _Mary Poppins_ over and over. I loved that album. But in one song, I didn’t understand why they mentioned my cousin Doris several times. The song was “Sister Suffragette”, and the lyrics, I now know, go like this: “Our daughters’ daughters will adore us” ---
