I think you’re right they changed some lyrics in that version, but they also seem to be bleeping out stuff. The first Cake music I bought was _Fashion Nugget_. I think it was a cassette. “I Will Survive” was on it. Is the above version the the one I have? ---

Do you still have a cassette player? Cassettes were it when I was a little kid. One year my uncle handed me a wrapped Christmas present and told me he was gifting me “a box full of air.” It turned out to be a cassette holder. I don’t have any cassettes any more, though. Do you remember pocket rockers? Those teeny tiny cassettes with the portable handheld radios? One track on each side. I had Tiffany. But I digress. ---

I do have a cassette player with a stereo system, but it’s all bubble wrapped and climate-controlled. Not set up. I do have one of those faux table top jukeboxes with a cassette player, but I never played my cassettes on it. It was hard on them. Used it in the kitchen for the radio. ---

The first music I bought was on a 45. Pocket Rockers were after my time. I still have all my cassettes, except one, Rush’s _2112_. That one was eaten by one of my car cassette players. ---

I feel like I’m on the FuckI’mOld subreddit! We are moving 400 miles away and, in the process, I donated 5 plastic cassette holders full up with cassettes to Savers (like Salvation Army but without taking advantage of the poor). I also had a round ball-like personal radio but really wanted on of those wrist type dealies but never got one. Now, back to our regularly scheduled thread– What I heard: Cuz it gets me no where to tell you ‘no’ And it gets me no where to make you grow Would a little more love make you self-dependent? Would a little more love make a happy ending? Would a little more love make it right? I thought Olivia Newton-John (always known to my friends as Olivia Neutron-Bomb) was calling out her boyfriend’s mother on not raising him right. ---

Listened to Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day just for the hell of it, then looked up the lyrics. Boy, that clarified a lot. Anyway. I thought it was Cuz I’m in the eye Of this hurricane of fucking lies But it’s _And I leave behind_ _This hurricane of fucking lies_ Which makes more sense, but I liked mine, too. I’ve always loved this song for perfectly capturing the zeitgeist of my generation (elder Millenial, Gen X.) Now that I can see it’s about leaving your shitty hometown and shitty home life, I love it even more. ---

I just found out, thanks to the digital readout on the car dash, that the lyric is “Let my love open the door” and not “Delilah open the door.” So Townshend went from a creepy ex to a lovelorn man. ---

From “New Song” by The Who Nothing really ever changes, my friend _ **New lamps for old, new lamps for old** _ I always heard the line as “new **laughs** for old” – which doesn’t make much sense, though I got the gist of what Pete meant. I got clued in to the correct line the other day looking at the lyric sheet from the Who Are You box set. Turns out “new lamps for old” is from the story of Aladdin, where a sorcerer acquires the old (magic) lamp in exchange for a new, non-magic one. ---
