So let’s have a general commercial thread. What do you like out there? What do you hate? What do you want better? I will never get enough of Dish’s Hoppah! commercials. I laugh every time. I also laugh every time I see the Vontage commercial where the creepy stepford neighbors come with a bundle and a puppy. I love how she says “puppy!” and the look the dog has is also quite funny. More a marketing thing but I love Applebee’s new tagline of “see you tomorrow” What else is out there to talk about? ---

Takes all kinds, I suppose, because I don’t care for any of those. In fact, I find “The Hopper” to be the most annoying ads currently on (at least that I can remember right now.) I don’t know how widely seen this commercial is, but it’s my current favorite: [Cox Cable ad](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zsoVHYS3UA&feature=relmfu) with the embarrassing dad who institutes “Bonding Time!” whenever their cable connection is buffering. It’s a series, but the linked one is my favorite, with the son and his girlfriend. The dad is so horrible and the kids are so cute. It’s a good thing it still makes me laugh every time, because they play the shit out of it. ---

I normally skip commercials as much as possible (love my DVR!). The times I don’t bother skipping, the Geico lizard is somewhat amusing. I have a general aversion to commercials, since they seem to either be written by or for twelve-year-old boys, judging by the intelligence, maturity, and class levels. 🙂 ---

Normally I can’t stand any commercial with babies (especially crying ones), but there’s a pretty good one for Buffalo Wild Wings. There was a couple eating at BWW and watching football due to a past incident: they watched a game at some friends’ house. They weren’t allowed to cheer at all because it would wake up the friends’ babies. When they did cheer, all the obnoxious kids started crying, running around, blocking the TV, and doing everything else I hate about kids. ---

There’s one for an optical company, sorry I don’t recall which one, where a woman is in her yard calling for her cat to come in. A big old raccoon comes galumphing in as she’s cooing at it “hims come snuggle with mama”. It cracks me up because I have mistaken raccoons for my cat. Well, not to the point of inviting one in, but at a glance they look very similar. ---

A newish commercial that I don’t like is [this one](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDh7ZUrorMc) for the Cadillac XTS (called the “Buttons” commercial and about the CUE or “Cadillac User Experience,” the touchscreen command center in this new car). The script reads, “Count the number of buttons in your car. Now count the number of buttons on your tablet. Isn’t it time the automobile advanced? Introducing CUE in the all-new Cadillac XTS. The simplicity of a tablet has come to your car. The all-new Cadillac XTS has arrived and it’s bringing the future forward. See your Cadillac dealer for this attractive offer.” They seem to miss the point that buttons are useful in a car because you can learn to use them without looking, but you need to look at a tablet PC to use its on-screen features. So they’re proud of the fact that their new car forces the driver to take his/her eyes off the road? ---

I like the one, I think it’s for those little drinks in the pouch with the straw that I can’t remember the name of right now, where the mom is at gym with her kid in school, and she’s got her arms out protecting him and saying, “It’s okay, mommy’s here”. That commercial cracks me up. ---

Not sure if that’s a reflection on my memory or the effectiveness of the ad. ---

Oh, I love that Vonage commercial with the creepy pair at the door. I LOVE the way she says ‘puppy’! There is a whole world of unspoken dialogue, covered by the way she says that one word! I’m still trying to figure out the new Geico commercial with a bodybuilder directing traffic and a couple of, I dunno, street performers making comments. Just how many commercials does Geico HAVE, anyway? If you put them all together, they’d run longer than the LotR trilogy. OTOH I am getting damned sick of seeing Mike Rowe flipping those damn summertime-burgers while shilling for Ford. The money must have come in handy during his superlong hiatus from Dirty Jobs (which has a new show on tonight, btw). ---

One that I hate (and have done for a while) is the one for Kit Kat bar where people are chomping and smacking. It makes me sick to my stomach. In fact, while I used to really like Kit Kat bars, now when I see one, I just get nauseated. Good job with the classical conditioning, morons. ---

She’s producing someone who may well never get past the “helpless baby dependent on Mama” stage and learn to be a functional adult. ---
