These minor cold symptoms I’ve been having for about three weeks or so. It hasn’t developed into a full-blown cold, but the occasional coughing and stuffy nose is enough to drive me wild. In fact, my dear friend Eric predicted that I’d get a mutant supervirus because I was hanging around all these people in various stages of sickness. I hope he’s wrong, but he’s been eerily right before about this kind of thing. (and about some indigestion I had years ago…) F\_X ---

Right now I’ve got a sore throat. Technically, it feels like someone sandpapered my right tonsil. It’s felt like that for over two weeks, and I’m calling the doctor today. I get chronic tonsil problems and I hate them. Swallowing (shut up, everyone!) anything is hell. I have a bad knee from when I dislocated it back in April, 2000. It locks sometimes (twenty or thirty times a day) and I have the flex it and smack the side of my leg to make it work again. The skin on my feet dries out and cracks in winter. I work retail, so I’m always standing, and it hurts a lot. I’m too young to be this decrepit. ---

Raynaud’s Phenomenon. I don’t know what causes it, but it basically means that the tip of my middle finger on my right hand feels like it has an exposed nerve ending. I have almost passed out from the pain after hitting a stair rail or a drawer pull just the wrong way. And it randomly sends shooting pains up that finger for no cause that I can discern. Very painful & not a damn thing the doctors can do about it. ☹ ---

I’ve had hives non-stop for almost 4 years now. It’s just lovely. But that’s not the complaint. I take a boatload of antihistamines every day because I have this addiction to breathing. And this last year I’ve gotten blurry vision. Allergist says it’s not the hives or the drugs so off I go to the eye doctor. I have dry eyes. Whoodathunkit? And just little drops of OTC eyedrops work wonders. I’ve spent months being so blurry I could barely read the monitor and all I needed to do was go to the Drugstore and buy a $1 bottle of eye drops? Geez, I’m such a loser. ---

I’ll third the psoriasis complaint. At least, that’s what I think it is, though I’ve never had it diagnosed. I get itchy, flaky skin right between my eyebrows, and it’s almost impossible to resist the urge to pick at it, which then causes red, slightly sore spots. It clears up quickly after a couple of applications of cortisone cream, but comes back if I stop for a couple of days. Not that I’d complain or even mention it, but you did ask for ‘minor ailments’. ---

Here’s a good one. Several months back I had an ENT discover why I couldn’t hear so well from my left ear. It seems I have a faulty eustation tube on that side. Part of the problem was due to a badly deviated septum, a growth and poorly designed sinuses. I had surgery to fix all the above (which wasn’t much fun). Now healed, I hear fine. But now the sides of my nose are starting to collaspe. When I inhale through my nose, the sides of my nose pull in. If I snif, one side seals off completely. The other side is getting that way as well. So now I have round two of the surgery. This time they’re taking part of my ear and putting it in my nose to help hold it open. Kind of like a no-snore strip made of catilage from my ear. So they wrecked my nose to fix my ear, now they’re going to use my ear to fix my nose. ---
