Sarah McLachlan’s “I will remember you”. A friend sang it at my daughter-in-law’s funeral. I will never know how she got through it without breaking down, but she did. I can’t bear to hear it to this day, and it’s been nearly 9 years.

I love Bluegrass music. One real old-fashioned tearjerker that makes me cry every time I hear it is The Osborne Brothers singing “Will there be any schoolbus in Heaven?” Another Bluegrass group I love is The Seldom Scene and their entire “Baptizing” album makes me cry.

A bluegrass song that gets me is **There Is a Time** by The Dillards. [Here they are performing it as the Darling Family on the Andy Griffith Show](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQtXEb7C30o).

Wow! I remember that. I remember seeing it and I guess it had to be when it was orignally broadcast.

Thanks for bringing a lovely memory to my mind.

[Mna Na H’Eireann](http://youtube.com/watch?v=-YswL5i6wbc) (The Women of Ireland) by the Chieftans (from way back before Celtic Commodification was a staple on PBS)

Also from _Barry Lyndon,_ Schubert’s [Piano Trio in E Flat](http://youtube.com/watch?v=R7ixGAOwCiQ&feature=related)

My vote too for Arvo Paart’s [Tabula Rasa.](http://youtube.com/watch?v=b5qzWmPlo8o)

Aram Khachaturian’s [Gayaneh’s Adagio](http://youtube.com/watch?v=anjVjj4w5rA)

Rachmaninoff’s [Vocalise](http://youtube.com/watch?v=gERptKVcxTM&feature=related)

Any one of them would be great to slash your wrists to, or take blood coagulant and enjoy 'em all!

[QUOTE=Purd Werfect]
What a good suggestion! Tabula Rasa is probably the most aching and beautiful album I’ve ever heard.

As for my own contribution, I vote for “Some Grand Vision of Motives and Irony” by the criminally unknown Loud Family, off of their (great) album - “Plants and Birds and Rocks and Things”.
[/QUOTE]

…and no one in love with me…

I’m late to the thread, but I’m a huge Scott Miller fan. That guy can write some achingly beautiful songs, right up there with Big Star, in my book, if not even better.

Some other songs thaat rank right up there with that are
\*Like a Girl Jesus

We Love You Carol and Alison

Throwing the Election

Not Expecting Both Contempo and Classique

Just Gone

Way Too Helpful\*

Mark Shultz has a gift for a one-per-album tearjerker:
_He’s My Son_
_Letters From War_
_Walking Her Home_

Bob Carlisle’s _Butterfly Kisses_ makes me teary when I think about my little girl getting married one day.

Billy Joel’s _Got to Begin Again_ has a special sound for me these days, too.

Since my musical tastes are constantly changing, I’ll just have to offer up these picks from my current Euro-chick-metal phase (all youtube links):

[Epica - Solitary Ground](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-jJ_5H9vAI)
_In me, there’s still a place the fulfills me
a sanctity here that I call home, I run to
when winter descends
If I try, can I find solid ground?
Or am I just wasting time?_

[Within Temptation - Memories](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhzJO34SCoc)
_All of my memories keep you near
in silent moments, imagine you’d be here
all of my memories keep you near
in silent whispers, silent tears_

[Within Temptation - Our Farewell](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_RZ7XWOQhg&feature=related)
_So sorry your world is tumbling down
I’ll watch you through these nights
Rest your head and go to sleep
Because my child, this is not our farewell_

Fifteen years ago, I would’ve gone with the aforementioned _Brothers in Arms_ and _Romeo & Juliet_ by Dire Straits (and if anyone here wants to mention the Indigo Girls version – LIAR! IT NEVER HAPPENED! NOT IN MY WORLD, DEMMIT), or _Vincent_ by Don McLean.

Missed the edit window. I just wanted to mention it’s infinitely amusing to me to see a bunch of metalheads with shaved heads and mohawks make such a touching video 😃

Can’t even bear to listen to it really, though much of that is what is means to me personally as it directly connects with a certain someone.
