Your Own Personal Concert

(Told you we had a time machine.)

Any other takers of this prize ?

“And we are the sum of these parts : broken promises and hearts.”

Easy, the place is Wembley stadium; John Lee Hooker to start it up, Eric Clapton to speed it up, Janice Joplin to soul it up and the Stones to rock it up.

Hmmm well based on my current tastes and all time faves:

Playing at The Gorge in Washington (an amphitheater carved into a canyon by the columbia river)

Oingo Boingo
Fishbone (with all the original members)
The Smiths
The Misfits (with both Glen and Michael trading off lyrical duties depending on the song)

Voted Biggest Smartass by all you beautiful people!

You always use violence. I should’ve ordered glutinous rice chicken.

LOCATION: The Abyss (an intimate club that holds about 900 people. 19Th St@the beach
Virginia Beach, VA

DATE: Friday April 7, 2000 (My 21st birthday)

Opening band: Powerman5000
followed by : Insane Clown Posse
followed by : Pantera
Closing : No Doubt (I know, I know)

Hey, the good thing is on April 5th I do get to see No Doubt in Washington, DC (close enough) so that’s pretty cool…and yes, the list is odd so please spare me the ridicule…

-Christina

Hmmmmm…let’s mix up a couple more musical genres.

Oscar Peterson - serving up some cool jazz (just really starting to love jazz thanks to the wife)
R.E.M. - mostly old stuff please
Hoodoo Guru’s
Blue Rodeo

My Venue would have to be a big double ended concert hall…with a small stage and little tables on one end, and a big open floor on the other end.

Tortoise (tables)
Pixies (‘Bossanova’ era) (open floor)
Jesus Lizard (‘Liar’ era) (open floor)
And Tom Waits Closing with a 4 hour set, with me at a little table with a 2 gallon jug of Johnnie Walker Black Label and a carton of Luckies.

Okay, we need someplace small, yet enough room to jump around in… I think that a small club in Ithaca, NY called The Haunt would be good enough.

The line-up:

Counting Crows
Radiohead
Nirvana (with Cobain intact, naturally)
Rage Against the Machine

I honestly cannot imagine anything better than this. I could die.

My musical tastes are pretty damn eclectic, even within genres, so I’ve been avoiding this thread since it started, because the guys I’d pick would sound pretty damn odd together.

But what the hell.

The venue would be my living room. It’s comfy enough, and there’s easy access to beer and whiskey (Lester Young will insist on refreshment) and I think I still have some dope someplace (Louis Armstrong and Jerry Garcia will insist on refreshment).

No acts. Everyone has to play together. So figure on a few hours of totally entertaining practicing.

Let’s have Satchmo on cornet, and J.C. Higgenbotham on trombone. On reeds, Charlie Parker (alto), Lester Young (tenor), and Pepper Adams (baritone), plus Buddy DeFranco on clarinet and Pan on the flute.

Keyboards: Johann Sebastian Bach.

Niccolo Paganini on the fiddle. Jerry Garcia on lead guitar, and Charlie Christian on rhythm (they can switch off).

Jimmy Blanton on bass, Keith Moon and Chano Pozo on drums.

Dinah Washington, Cab Calloway, and Rudy Vallee on vocals.

Uke

Sooooooooo many to choose from! This is really hard.

Pink Floyd (circa 1967 or 68 with Syd Barrett)
The Band (circa 1973 or 74)
The Who (circa 1971 or so, preferably during the “Who’s Next” tour)
The Grateful Dead (circa 1969, 70 or 71, when Pigpen was still around)

This would take place at the old Fillmore West or at Winterland in San Francisco. And yes, I want Bill Graham running the whole damn show.

One venue? I don’t think so - let’s really work that time machine…

Venue #1: Bourbon St., New Orleans, Louisiana
Louie Armstrong begins this musical extravaganza with some red hot jazz; Mardi Gras serves as the backdrop

Venue #2: Red Square, Moscow, Russia
The odyssey continues. “Welcome Party leaders! Now please give a nice, hard line welcome America’s hard line rockers - Ted Nugent and the Motor City Madmen!”

Venue #3 - High in the Sierra Nevadas, at night.
Let’s back it down just a little, and mix in some smoother stuff. Bring on Bob Segar and the Silver Bullet Band!

Venue #4 - Atlanta’s Historic Oakland Cemetary
Sure, it’s a little different than most concert venues, but the residents won’t mind. Besides, half the band will feel right at home, 'cause we’re going to see the original incarnation of Lynyrd Skynyrd!

Wow, if I win this concert another 967 times, I’ll be able to live out all my musical fantasies.

The overwhelming majority of people have more than the average (mean) number of legs. – E. Grebenik

1)Eric Johnson

2)Van Halen

3)Grateful Dead

4)Metallica

5)Pink Floyd

6)Elvis

7)Hendrix

8)Me!

The concert would be in Berkeley
the drugs are free!

I think I want the concert to be held at a place called Sinking Creek, which is a rather remote natural amphitheater no one much knows about. That’s OK, though since I am not interested in gate reciepts, and am only inviting a thousand or so folks to be there. (not counting roadies, groupies, and of course Wavy Gravy, and the Hog Farm folks.)

Bob Dylan

Jimi Hendrix

Frank Zappa

Ray Charles

I am assuming the artists get the backup musicians/band members of their choice. The show is gonna have to provide its own finale, with everyone on stage providing back up for each other.

Can I invite other musicians to be in the
audience?

Imagine my signature begins five spaces to the right of center.

Location: The basement of the CIA (Just because I want to see what it looks like)

Hootie and the Blowfish
Dave Matthew’s Band
Cranberries
John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra

A hush fell over the courtroom, killing six.

I love you…

I am a redhead, you see, and I do not tempt. I insist. -Cristi

My dream concert would be held at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC, to the locals) because I love outdoor venues.

  1. Barenaked Ladies
  2. Tragically Hip
  3. Ben Folds Five
  4. Billy Joel

Then I could die happy.

Mt. Dew habit kicked since 2/21/00!

I would like to have the following perform in my apartment or back yard,

Men Without Hats, followed by
Ministry (around the time of TWITCH), then
the Chameleons

with headliner…
