I never thought it was strange, but a friend of mine was surprised and amused when she found a CD of mine labeled “Really Long Songs.”
Heh-heh-heh-heh…
Let’s see…
-Armageddon [songs about/appropriate for the end of the world]
-Cyberpunk
-Cruising (Car)
-Cruising (In helicopter gunship)
-“Double Os” [Songs stylistically appropriate for, but mostly not actually from, Bond films]
-Flight
-Flight/Combat [I do a bit of flight sim work]
-Gibbering Insanity [Crazy, and/or stressed out music]
-Giant Monsters (Lotsa Godzilla and assorted giant monster movie music)
-Mad Science
-Naval [Songs for naval vessels, sailing, etc]
-Odd Musicals
-Psychological Warfare mix [in case I ever need to lay siege to a compound]
-Revolution [songs for revolts, revolutions, uprisings, etc]
-Steampunk
-Tank music [for slogging along in a tank, should the occasion ever arise]
I’ve made some smart playlists in iTunes just to see what happens. I have one called I/Me/Mine, which is songs with one of those words in the title. I also have one called Songs with Guns, where the lyrics include guns whether they’re the topic or incidental.
And one that I actually listen to called Island Jams, which is reggae, ska, etc.
I have a “Good Eats” playlist. Current songs include:
“Fatback and Corn Licker” - Louis Jordan
“RC Cola And A Moon Pie” - NRBQ
“Howard Johnson’s Got His Ho-Jo Working” - NRBQ
“One Meat Ball” - Ry Cooder
“Banana Pudding” - Southern Culture On The Skids
“Eat Steak” - Reverend Horton Heat
“Red Beans And Rice” - Booker T and the MGs
“My Sweet Potato” - Booker T and the MGs
Oo, just added “Junk Food Heaven” (The Forty-Fives) and “Junk Food Junkie” (Larry Groce).
Other tasty suggestions welcomed.

I have one containing only songs with drum solos. So far, it’s a pretty short list.
[/QUOTE]
Try “San Diego Shutdown” by Los Straitjackets. Great instrumental rock with a fine drum solo.
Paul Simon’s So Beautiful Or So What…
I have two playlists stored on my phone. One is called “excellent-quality songs” and has about 200 songs for my workouts. It has a bit of Michael Jackson, Dr. Dre, Pointer Sisters, and Madonna. It also includes all the songs in my other playlist, which contains about 110 songs. This other playlist is called “highest-possible-quality songs”:
All 110 of the songs are Kesha songs.
Does this include “You’re the Best” from Karate Kid?
I Don’t Want Love

If love makes you give up saute and pate
And foie gras
And stuff you have to flambé
If love makes you give up buffalo wings
I don’t want love*.
I like to organize songs by themes. Maybe not normal themes.
These themes include:
Unrequited & Misguided (examples: “He Keeps Me Alive” by Sally Sharpio, “Designs on You” by the Old 97’s…)
The Sickness (“Sick & Beautiful” by Artificial Joy Club, “Touch Me I’m Sick” by Mudhoney…)
**So Haunted **(“Your Ghost” by Kristin Hersh, “To Repel Ghosts” by Manic Street Preachers…)
Shut Up & Kiss Me (“A Thousand Kisses Deep” by Leonard Cohen, “Mercy Kiss” by The Abandoned Pools…)
Reluctant Sex (“Jump Right In” by The Urge, “No Sex” by Limp Bizkit…)
Pitiful (“Pitiful” by Blindside, “Pathetic” by Face To Face)
**Gun in Shaking Hands **(“That’s When I Reach for my Revolver” by Moby, “Always” by Saliva…)
**Going Out of My Mind **(“Crazy Baby” by Joan Osborne, “Lithium” by Nirvana…)
Losing My Religion (“God” by Tori Amos, “Starlovers” by GusGus…)
Desperately Wanting (“NY Roll” by Surviving August, “Broken-hearted Savior” by Big Head Todd & the Monsters…)
Death And Other Heavy Things (“O Death” by Ralph Stanley, “Dead Heart” by Radford…)
Damn The Man (“Excuse Me Mister” by Ben Harper, “Do You Know?” by Killradio…)
Could It Be…Satan? (“Let The Devil In” by TV on Radio, “Booksmart Devil” by Silversun Pickups…)
Behind The Wall of Sleep (“Was It A Dream?” by 30 Seconds to Mars, “Woman Driving, Man Sleeping” by the Eels…)
And lots of other lists based on having people’s names or words about colors, fire, glass, the world, sight, animals, obscenities, heaven, Jesus, breathing, heavenly bodies, winter, bad weather, leaving, broken, body parts, bleeding, and so on.
Thanks for the additional “Good Eats” suggestions.
I suspect R&B would have a bunch of good stuff (Louis Jordan alone has supplied me with “Saturday Night Fish Fry”, “Onions” and “Cole Slaw”).
56 versions of Louie Louie. After that I got bored.
Dianna Krall - Peel Me a Grape
Willie Bobo - Fried Neckbones and Some Home Fries
UB40 / Neil Diamond - Red Red Wine
Eddie Harris - That Is Why You’re Overweight
