While it’s not a Xanth novel, read this one and get back to me about whether or not you still feel the same way about Mr Anthony’s POV regarding sex with minors. It’s pretty barfy.
Korean dramas are appalling. It’s hard to explain exactly what sucks specifically…you should just count yourself lucky if you haven’t experienced the particular displeasure.
I have a friend who only reads self-help books. The more new agey they are, the more she likes them.
I know another woman who loves the Left Behind books, and thinks they are so great that she seeks out books that are knock-offs of the Left Behind books. The perplexing part is that she’s not a believer in whatever religion that is, nor is she a fan of other thrillers/suspense novels (I have had heard some other people claim that it’s possible to ignore the religion and enjoy the action-y parts. I wouldn’t know, I’m sure.). I have asked her what she likes about them, and she herself says she can’t really describe it. It’s not a “it’s so bad, it’s good” thing, either. I offended her when I suggested that.
I am a big snob, I know this. But the one redeeming habit I have, I think, is that even when I enjoy garbage, I can take a step back from it and recognize that it’s trash. I can talk about what makes it so awful, and think about why I enjoy it anyway. Sometimes it’s nostalgia. Sometimes it’s a perverse thrill in seeing just how tacky something can be. Sometimes there is one tiny element that rises above whatever other dreck is going on. But the above examples make me crazy because the people involved can’t get any distance from these things at all – as far as they’re concerned, the books are GREAT and that’s the beginning and end of it.
I somehow managed to miss that one. I’ll take your word for it.
I like Spam on Saltines, $11.99 a bottle Sobieski Polish vodka and “Wheel of Fortune”.
Even better if I got 'em all at the same time.
What can I say, I like to reward myself.
Lucky you! Wish I could say the same…
We SO need a puking smiley…
If I meet somebody who is really, really into Rent, I can be pretty sure I will not like anything they like.
As for Xanth, forget the underage concerns, what about stuff like Bink thinking a hot woman was obviously “built for rape”?
I have a friend who’s deeply into heavy metal because the lyrics “speak to her soul.”
Awwww. I was 14 once, too.
Looking at this from the other side, I would wonder why you even cared what I like.
I think I read/watch/listen serious stuff. I also know I sometimes read/watch/listen to serious fluff.
So was she, 15 years ago.
I can’t believe anyone actually thinks the food at Norm’s is good.
Mature adults drink $6 PBRs while watching bands like Fleet Foxes or Belle and Sebastian and laughing about the latest Demetri Martin special.
I used to like Piers Anthony, granted I haven’t read any of his stuff in a long time but since he sort of started me off on my crazed reading frenzy of anything sci fi or fantasy* I still like to think of him fondly, which is why I haven’t read anymore of his stuff.
*Before Anthony I had only read Tolkien, I didn’t think I’d like anything else so I just reread Tolkien over and over, then a friend introduced me to the Xanth novels and since I also like puns I started reading them all and eventually moved on to other authors.
What I am horrified about is that there are people who like Dane Cook and even consider him attractive. Every movie I have ever seen with him he plays the exact same smarmy character which makes me believe that’s all he can play because that’s him.
