I actually think those “who is your favorite poster” type of threads can promote cliquishness and hurt feelings. To me, they are the message board equivalent of those “most popular” votes in high school. Ugh!

That’s certainly the downside. It’s easy for “who’s work do you value?” to turn into “my favorite poster”. With the almost inevitable gush-fest for a few, and crickets for the highly deserving rest. Human nature is a right bitch.
