Your top-10 science fiction films of this century (2000-2023)

Wow, thank you for this!

That is an awesome summary. One nitpick: you have The Shape of Water getting one vote, twice. It should be on the “two votes” list.

I am going to leave any Marvel/superhero movies off my list because I am a big fan and my list would probably be just them.

District 9
Interstellar
Limitless
Mad Max: Fury Road
Pitch Black
Star Trek(2009)
Terminator Genysis
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
Wall-E
War of The Worlds (2005)

If I did NOT mention a movie it probably because I have NOT seen it yet. (And this thread reminds me of about a dozen movies I should probably check out.)

I feel the OP made it clear we were using a loose definition of what constitutes science fiction.

In no order at all:

Gravity
Interstellar
District 9
Moon
The Martian
Primer
Looper
Children of Men
Edge of Tomorrow
Mad Max: Fury Road

What the heck, I’ll add the Ghostbusters remake (the one with the female cast) to my list, since I have room. No, it wasn’t as funny as the original, and no, it certainly wasn’t the same. But I thought that, overall, it was a better movie (better characterization, better plot, etc.).

Dune
Prey
The Creator - (just saw this so it may be recency bias but I really enjoyed it)
the Planet of the Apes trilogy (Rise, Dawn, War)
Edge of Tomorrow
The Martian
Arrival
Pitch Black
Alita: Battle Angel
Mad Max: Fury Road

Gravity
Blade Runner 2049
Serenity
Moon
The Martian
Guardians of the Galaxy
PREY
Iron Man
Edge of Tomorrow
Mad Max: Fury Road

What in The Prestige is science fictiony?

Hey, I’ll watch any movie where I get to see Tom Cruise killed 26 times.

The Tesla device used by Angier.

Thanks for the info. Haven’t watched this movie since it first came out.

In no particular order…

Minority Report
Wall-E
Ex Machina
Edge of Tomorrow
Blade Runner 2049
Moon
Inception
The Prestige (does this count?)
Arrival
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (also not sure if counts)
The Martian

Oops that’s 11!

Since I’ve included a couple of films that are debatable as far their ‘science-fictionish’ is concerned, I thought I would add a couple more here that I personally wouldn’t include as sci fi but have seen mentioned above. The Incredibles, which is one of my favourites full stop, and Spiderman into the Spiderverse (I haven’t seen the sequel).
