Is there anyone else on this board who even knows The 77s?!
Nice choice BTW
I think @Thudlow_Boink and I put about half of Sticks and Stones onto the various mmm song polls around a year or so ago. I don’t know that anyone besides us ever voted for one of them, but they were there.
Finding some new-to-me song thanks to a Doper’s recommendation is one of the quiet joys of hanging around here, and I’m glad to pull some of my obscure favorites out for others to maybe get into.
“Sultans of Swing,” Dire Straits
“Fall on Me,” R.E.M.
“Inca Roads,” Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention
Love this.
And this. (ETA - Ha! We’re in sync, it seems.)
Interesting but valid choices.
Born To Be Wild - Steppenwolf
Baba O’Riley - The Who
Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix
Supper’s Ready-Genesis
Strawberry Fields Forever-The Beatles
Start Me Up-The Rolling Stones
No particular order
Thunderstruck - AC/DC
Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Mama I’m Coming Home - Ozzy Osborne
Probably conflating “Ride Captain Ride” with “Closer To Home”. I used to get them confused a lot too.
As of this second:
“Gimme Shelter” - Stones
“The Price You Pay” - Springsteen
“Please Please Me” - Beatles
Without counting, just by reading the whole thread, I have the impression that “Gimme Shelter” is the most mentioned song by far.
It’s a good’un. I gave Honky Tonk Women the nod as it’s more straight ahead rock and roll.
“Revolution” - The Beatles (the first record I ever bought…a 45)
“Honky Tonk Women” The Rolling Stones (He couldn’t catch me to tell me to slow down. Bellevue circa 1969)
Not sure about the third one…yet.
I do love “Gimme Shelter,” but that one came later for me.
My own favorite Stones song is “Shattered.”
Bite the Big Apple!
Don’t mind the maggots.
I have the album Some Girls with Lucille Ball on it.
The White Stripes - Fell in Love with a Girl
The answer is subject to change in the next 15 minutes.
Hell, the results would have been different if the title was “Your three top rock and roll songs of all time”.
Dolly Parton - Jolene
Willie Nelson - Too Sick to Pray
A Tribe Called Quest - Can I Kick It?
