I thank you for responding. Of course, these things are subjective, so far be it from me to knock anyone’s “top” song, but I disagree that this is a great song. Poignant lyrics can help, but in my humble opinion , they can’t save this droning mishmash.
Nor, apparently, can an all-star back up band.
I appreciate your point of view and with that, I will drop the hi-jack.

Mick should sing, “Like MEEEE!”
“I hope they don’t think we’re a Rock n Roll outfit.” - Mick Jagger
As an aside - heard this version ?
If Nick isn’t back in the lead, he’s certainly closed the gap.

My Top 3
Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf
Rock and Roll - Led Zep
Barracuda - Heart
“It’s a noise we make, that’s all. You could be kind and call it music.”
– also Mick
Question fro the OP: Are we now far enough into this thread to start thinking about notable omissions?
(Loaded question.)
j
I’ve been cruising & contributing to this thread and don’t recall seeing the most obvious one - has “Stairway to Heaven” been listed?
With this many entries (and repeats), I don’t think pointing out obvious omissions would be out of order.
Nevermind, Spoons put Stairway on his list
But the more I think about it, my more accurate list of “Top 3 of all time” are:
“Dazed and Confused”/Live -Led Zeppelin from “The Song Remains the Same” album
“Smells Like Teen Spirit” - Nirvana
“Dominance and Submission” - Blue Oyster Cult
All three are some of the most thunderous expressions of the raw power of rock and roll
I’ve been putting it off because I can’t yet come up with a third.
My second one hasn’t been mentioned yet.
My original 3 were “True” rock and roll - interpretations and all that. But - gasp! - nobody has posted this:
It ain’t one of the originals, but it’s as true to the spirit as it gets.A shocking omission. I blame myself.

I will sit in the car and wait until these finish. Whatever errand I’m running can wait 3 minutes.
