Dig into the Anthology double set. There was a time when mostly all they did was rock originals, covers, or tributes. Lately I’m finding more and more that I prefer those Beatles most of all, when they were just working class lads paying tribute to the greats, before they picked up all the pretensions, effriperies, and quirks.

Absolutely THE MOST mournful guitar solo ever. Wonderful. You can hear his acceptance of the loss of music by the end of the solo (ya gotta follow the plot of the Joe’s Garage musical).
