Mine is one that I’ve used since near the beginning of being online. I have strawberry blonde hair, giving me the nick of _Red_ amongst most of my biker friends. It’s also a pun in that, most folks don’t quite get me on the first go. ---

I’m fairly certain that the inside of my mind looks like a dark, dusty cabinet filled with curious artifacts, bizarre creatures, gizmos, gadgets, whosits, whatsists, thingamabobs, and all the detritus of a a life spent accumulating useless knowledge. As usual, the Germans have invented exactly the word I need. ---

Chronos is the mythological incarnation of Time, a subject on which it’s probably fair to say I obsess. I’ll admit, though, that the immediate source of the username was the novel _Bearing an Hourglass_– When I first started establishing an online presence, I was still young and impressionable enough to think that Piers Anthony was a good writer. ---

One time after playing video games and consuming large amounts of alcohol all night, my friends and I somehow got onto the debate of who could kill who in a fight. I think Picard would win hands down, some people would say that Captain :rolleyes: Kirk would win. ---

My name is Ric. I’m a musician. I play several instruments including keyboards, guitar, bass, saxophone, and my specialty - ukulele. When an old girlfriend found out about it, she said “You’re a regular Rico Babaloo, aren’t you?” “Who?” I said. “You know the guy who’s married to Lucy. The bandleader.” I guess I’m lucky she didn’t call me Ricky. The Rico part stuck and has been my screenname since my first BBS days in Los Angeles. ---

David Sedaris wrote this essay “The Santaland Diaries” about his time working as an elf (in Santaland) at Macy’s. They got to make up their own elf names. Most of the time he was Crumpet, but on more ornery/bad days he was Blisters. On some of the forums I frequent the women all have cute names “HayleysMom” etc. so I kind of like being Blisters. ---

I’m really not that creative, despite my disillusions. My sister had a baby. Therefore, Uncle Brother Walker. Chronologically: Number One: I’m Walker (nickname) Point B: I’m a brother. (subject to verification: I’m the youngest of three, so I may have been a Brother before I became a Walker, but I don’t want to fight a space-time paradox.) Lastly: My sister had a baby. Then I became an Uncle. I have been known to introduce myself by this moniker, just to break the ice and make a joke to throw folks off. I guess I’ll have to stick with this name until I manage to convince somebody to sire a child by me. Then I think I might re-name myself to “Poppa Chubby”, since I’ve gained weight. ---

Well, for obvious 😃 reasons I wanted a flavour/ animal combo user name, and VanillaGorilla was the only one I could think of that also rhymes. I hope no one ever breeds / makes a real vanilla gorilla though, because now that I think about it, it seems kinda nasty. ---

Vanilla Gorilla sounds like a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor. Vanilla flavor so powerful it destroys luggage! Well, my username story is long and boring but I’m telling it anyway. Ages ago when the earth cooled and internet was just being established, my young brother and I found out what this ‘IRC chat program’ dealy thingee was. My brother decided on a username ‘joat’ for Jack Of All Trades’. He was chatting it up with this one chick and he was stymied on what to say, so I took over. I announced my presence as the EVIL TWIN of Joat! It just kinda stuck with me. The rest, as they say, is history. Only this history isn’t done yet, because there’s more! I’ve used that username for quite awhile, and when I got married I decided to use my wife’s name instead, so for awhile I went by eviltwinofjoni. Then I divorced that horrid bitch and thought my username needed a change. So I shortened it to what I have today and I think I’ll stick with it. ---

When the board became free again I decided to resume posting, but got tired of my name, so I changed it one more time. I chose this name because I’m not rich or famous and well, it fits. This isn’t a complaint by the way, I’m perfectly fine with the way things are 🆒. ---

When my little brother was learning to talk he couldn’t pronounce Erica, so he called me Ra-ra. Then when my sister came along, she couldn’t say my name either. She called me La-la, for reasons best known to herself. I put them together and got Rala. I guess I could have used Lara, but I think Rala is more original. ---

In the Genesis song _Supper’s Ready_, the Antichrist is referred to as The Guaranteed Eternal Sanctuary Man. I thought the full name was a little wordy when I signed up, so I shortened it. ---

Learned about Olentzero when I took a class in Basque at Georgetown. Started using it when I couldn’t think of a decent username for a free email account, and almost everywhere I’ve signed up it’s been available. I still occasionally get email from Basque kids wanting something for Christmas. It’s a hoot.
