Iggy Pop

  1. Repo Man theme – Does anyone else love this song? I think this is just a great punk rock tune.
  2. I Wanna Be Your Dog – a great pre-punk tune and predesor to many “I Wanna…” songs
  3. Lust for Life – A little overexposed, but the best song about heroin addiciton ever used in a commercial for a cruise ship
  4. Real Wild Child
  5. Candy – A decent song, it’s a duet with Kate Pierson, which is nice.
  6. The Passenger
  7. Cold Metal
  8. Search and Destroy
  9. Cry For Love – Not a typical Iggy Pop song, but it’s on an album that Pop collaborated with David Bowie and the latter’s influence can be heard. I like the violins in the song, but that’s just me.
  10. Mask

I just realized that all I’m thinking mostly of is his older songs; I am not as familiar with his more recent work.

Okay, let’s do my five favorite bands, in alphabetical order just because it’s so hard to figure out which one’s actually my favorite, since each one seems like it when I’m listening to them. Some of these are some tough calls.

Anathema - So much good stuff it’s hard to leave things out, but trying to also get a range of their stuff style.

  1. One Last Goodbye

  2. Flying

  3. Fragile Dreams

  4. Lost Control

  5. Pressure

  6. Release

  7. Emotional Winter

  8. Wings of God

  9. Far Away

  10. The Silent Enigma
Dark Suns - Can I just say their Album Existence minus the spoken intro track to make 10? Fine…

  11. One Endless Childish Day

  12. Free of You

  13. Swanlike

  14. The Euphoric Sense

  15. Gently Bleeding

  16. Abiding Space

  17. The Chameleon Defect

  18. Flies In Amber

  19. The Sun Beyond Your Eden

  20. Patterns of Oblivion

Katatonia - Such a huge library, I just can’t hit it all. I tried to get a taste of everything, but I could easily get another half dozen in there to round out the progression.

  1. Teargas
  2. Evidence
  3. My Twin
  4. Forsaker
  5. Liberation
  6. Departer
  7. Omerta
  8. For My Demons
  9. Brave
  10. Saw You Drown

Nevermore - Might change if I knew what the person was into, since they cover several topics intensely, but disjointly.

  1. Dreaming Neon Black
  2. The Heart Collector
  3. Enemies of Reality
  4. Seven Tongues of God
  5. Termination Proclamation
  6. The Obsidian Conspiracy
  7. Born
  8. This Godless Endeavor
  9. The Sound of Silence
  10. I Am the Dog

Opeth - Gonna invoke the 20 option here here simply because my brother and I had, at one point, decide to actually make 2 mixes of them, one showcasing their 70s progressive rock influence, and the other their Death Metal influence. Give them one or the other depending on which side they’d like… or both.

Chill Stuff:

  1. Windowpane
  2. Coil
  3. Face of Melinda
  4. A Fair Judgment
  5. To Bid You Farewell
  6. Credence
  7. Benighted
  8. To Rid the Disease
  9. Burden
  10. Harvest

Brutal Stuff:

  1. Demon of the Fall
  2. Bleak
  3. The Drapery Falls
  4. Ghost of Perdition
  5. The Night and the Silent Water
  6. Forest of October
  7. Godhead’s Lament
  8. Serenity Painted Death
  9. Heir Aparent
  10. Reverie / Harlequin Forest
