Johannes Brahms, born May 7th, 1833, Hamburg; died April 3rd, 1897, Vienna.

Ordered from shorter works to longer works; YouTube links provided where possible.
Songs
Wiegenlied

Dein blaues Auge hält so still

Short piano works

Brahms intermezzo Op.117 No.1
Brahms Intermezzo A Major Op 118 No 2

Medium length works -

Piano Trio No.1
String Quintet in G Major, Op. 111 (couldn’t find a YouTube version I liked; sorry.)
Sonata no. 2 for Clarinet and Piano
Viola Sonata no. 2(Same piece; different instrument. Wanna start a great fight in the student lounge of the music building? Tell a clarinetist you prefer the viola version, or vice versa. Better still, get a clarinetist and a violist arguing over which one Brahms ‘meant’.)
Clarinet quintet

Longer works

Violin Concerto
Symphony #2
Symphony #4
Piano Concerto #2

Aw, you guys …

OK, so long as we understand these are not in order of preference:

  1. River of Orchids
  2. English Roundabout
  3. I Don’t Want to Be Here (demo)
  4. Pale and Precious
  5. Another Satellite
  6. Reel by Real
  7. Train Running Low on Soul Coal
  8. One of the Millions
  9. My Brown Guitar
  10. Rook

No significant original content yet, but two of my faves: “Dux”, about the female singer’s hometown, and “Main Street”, about the record store owner who threw them out, just to be an A-hole.

Both of my favorite bands have been mentioned already. I tried to stay away from songs that were on the radio as best I could, but here’s my input (sorry, I went to 21 on both. It was hard to cull the lists!):
**
Yes (in no particular order):**
Beyond and Before
Looking Around
We Have Heaven
South Side of the Sky
Heart Of The Sunrise
A Venture
Perpetual Change
Wonderous Stories
Awaken
City of Love
Holy Lamb
Rhythm of Love
Spirit of Survival
Real Love
Release Release
Arriving UFO
Dangerous
The More We Live - Let Go

New State of Mind

**
Def Leppard (in no particular order):**
Rock Brigade
No No No
Comin’ Under Fire
Me & My Wine
Excitable
Hysteria
White Lightning
Tear It Down
I Wanna Be Your Hero
Desert Song
Paper Sun
Day After Day
Pearl of Euphoria
Work It Out
Truth?
Slang
When Love And Hate Collide
Love Don’t Lie
Scar
Go
Come Undone

Great list. I’d add “Boogie Stop Shuffle” and “Nostalgia in Times Square”.
The Police

“Synchronicity II”
“Fallout”
“Contact”
“Murder By Numbers”
“Roxanne”
“De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da”
“Truth Hits Everyone”
“No Time This Time”
“I Burn For You”
“Every Breath You Take”

I notice there’s no Ghost in the Machine tracks. Any reason?

I’d throw in “Walking on the Moon” in place of “Murder By Numbers”.

Okay, since no other ninja will do it, I present

The Insane Clown Posse

Fuck the World
85 Bucks an Hour
Free Studio
Blaaam!
Dating Game (“It was a big fuckin’ smelly ass farm llama!”)
I Stab People
I Want My Shit
I’m Coming Home
Mad Professor
Rollin’ Over
SuperBalls
Growing Again
Haunted Bumps
Fearless

“Jane” needs to be in here somewhere, but I am entirely with you on “When I Fall”.

The Gathering (mostly from the Anneke van Giersbergen era, with a bit of the new stuff as well) basically in chronological order:

  1. Strange Machines
  2. The May Song
  3. Nighttime Birds
  4. Rescue Me (One of my favorites; I think it really showcases the greatest strengths of the band)
  5. My Electricity
  6. Travel
  7. Probably Built In The Fifties
  8. Analog Park
  9. Saturnine
  10. Broken Glass
  11. Morphia’s Waltz I wonder if Anneke sings this as a lullabye to her son.
  12. Even the Spirits are Afraid
  13. You Learn About It
  14. Monsters
  15. Locked Away (Acoustic version)
  16. Waking Hour
  17. Forgotten
  18. You Promised Me a Symphony First song on the list with the new singer, Silje formerly from Octavia Sperata; hard to follow Anneke, but she’s very good as well!
  19. Pale Traces This one is also off the latest album, but with Marcela Bovia on vocals.
  20. A Constant Run Another one with the new lead, Silje.

Bonus track! Anneke’s new band, Agua de Annique’s song “Yalin.” (though in this case it’s just Anneke and not the band.)

Lindsey Buckingham solo

David Gilmour solo

Lobot: No Short and Sweet?

I considered it. One of the best tracks on the album, but it’s all so close, really.

If you’re a DG fan, you probably know this. But just in case you haven’t come across it, this is one of the very best versions of Comfortably Numb, taken from one of his solo tours.

OH. MY. GOD.

Uh, I mean, no, I hadn’t heard it before. Unreal.

I left BSS off to avoid overrepresentation of Mingus Ah-Um, but it is a great piece. Thanks for adding these two.

I’d disagree. “Murder By Numbers” is a great song that doesn’t have the exposure that the others do. I’m not a big fan of the Police, but I find myself humming MBN every once in a while.

Drive-By Truckers

1 Women Without Whiskey
2 Your Daddy Hates Me
3 The Home Front
4 The Deeper In
5 Space City
6 Do It Yourself
7 Two Daughters And A Beautiful Wife
8 Birthday Boy
9 Sounds Better In The Song
10 When The Pin Hits The Shell

I just really love Copeland’s drumming on “Walking on the Moon”–it’s a great showcase for him, IMHO, and captures the band sounding like a really tight three-piece.

My Nine Inch Nails list:

  1. Closer
  2. Something I Can Never Have
  3. Capitol G
  4. The Great Below
  5. Starfuckers Inc
  6. Physical
  7. The Hand That Feeds
  8. Survivalism
  9. Discipline
  10. Terrible Lie

Widespread Panic
Ten (studio) albums - ten songs, in chronological order and with videos where I could find them.

  1. Weight of the World - Widespread Panic

  2. Space Wrangler - Space Wrangler live version

  3. Pickin’ Up The Pieces - Everyday studio version

  4. Ain’t Life Grand - Ain’t Life Grand studio version with pretty pictures

  5. Hope In A Hopeless World - bombs and butterflies studio with someone’s family pics

  6. Party At Your Mama’s House>Dyin’ Man - "Til The Medicine Takes

  9. Second Skin - Earth To America
10 Her Dance Needs No Body - Free Somehow Live @ Red Rocks, 2008
I tried to do Santana, but could only pare it down to ten albums (and even that hurt a little. No Milagro? No Brothers? No Buddy Miles or John McLaughlin? No I or III? No Alice Coltrane? Well, that might be okay.)

  10. Live At The Fillmore '68

  11. Abraxas

  12. Caravanserai

  13. Lotus

  14. Borboletta

  15. Welcome

  16. Moonflower

  17. Zebop!

  18. Shangó

  19. Sacred Fire - Live In South America

I like this thread. And since I feel more inclined to seek out music on the lists limited to 10 songs, I’ll follow that lead. They’re in order of my personal preference. These are the only artists whose entire catalogs I know well enough to make a genuine effort here.
