In which, I - Nearly Anonymous Doper Girl - get a mid five figure raise and a new job title just by saying, “I can do that!” It goes like this… A friend took the job as my boss. She didn’t like it. I’d been doing the job in a temp basis, as I am normally the financial manager. I back up the operations manager in my company. She _really_ didn’t like the job, less than 90 days in, and quit. I knew it was coming, and thought - you know, I can do that job, I have been doing that job, and I could sure use the _pay_ that comes with that job so… Today, the CEO came in while I was talking to my going to be ex boss and asked if we could run up an ad for her job. And I said, “I can do that job, can you advertise mine instead?” He asked me if I was serious, I said yes, and, well, there you go. Now I can do TWO jobs until I find someone to replace me, but I can think of several thousand reasons that that doesn’t really bother me right now. This is more money that I have EVER made before in my life, for a job I can do really well - not “in my sleep, I’ll be bored in a week” well, but “this is a challenge, but I can and have been doing a pretty fine job of it, mostly by thinking on my feet and paddling as fast as I can” well. So, mundane and pointless, and I am sharing. W00T! Cheers, G ---

Congrats! A success story if I’ve seen one lately. Too many of us (I don’t know how it is over there in Cheerful Chaos–that’s on the Gulf Coast of Texas, right? 😉 ) define ourselves by the rigidly structured context we feel we’re shoehorned into. But as you’ve demonstrated, sometimes when you move out of step the world will dance with you. ---

Thanks guys! I’m just now getting my head around all I have to do!! To clear up the question, the raise is mid 5 figures over and above what I was making. So it’s a LOT. I’ve only been here four months, and I took a moderate raise coming here, so its a lot of money in a short period of time. Since we’re house hunting, the timing is great.
