On other boards I frequently see posters who have usernames like **toddsmom** or **MonkeyBoysMommy**. No doubt you are proud of the little git, but your choice of username makes it appear that you are some sort of subordinate sub-being receiving just a bit of the reflected glow of your offspring. It is to barf. Thank you. ---

I have seen a couple of vanity plates like that at my kid’s school. I think it is pathetic. What, you don’t have any other identity of your own? Stepford moms. ---

I confess to a certain knee-jerk prejudice against usernames like “so-and-so’s-mom,” but there are a few “mom” username people here, and as far as I recall they seem pretty sharp. However, I have noticed on other message boards that the “mom” username types often are a little dull-witted or flighty. Or rather, a higher _percentage_ of them are dull-witted or flighty. A certain percentage of _all_ message board posters are going to be dull-witted or flighty no matter what. The “mom” ones are perhaps a little more so. Just a little. Maybe. Depending on the board. 😉 ---

There is also the possibility that some parents do it to give their children a sense of pride. It doesn’t necessarily mean that they see this as _all_ of their identity. ~ Fuzzy’s wife ~ ---

People choose usernames for all kinds of reasons, but a very common theme is picking something that means something special to them. Whether it’s a username that reflects a favorite rock group, or a character from a book, a cherished car, or a beloved pet, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the user defines themselves that way. Maybe it’s just a way of saying, “Here’s a clue as to where one of my greatest passions lies.” ---

Yeah, I can see the argument for license plates, but in a username, you’re necesitating a somewhat arbitrary and meaningless name. A lot of people don’t want to use their real names, and there’s certainly a lot of random or simply smart ass names out there. My own is just a mildly random conbination of a word and some letters with a tangential relationship to real life, so if someone wants to talk about being a dad, mom, or whatever, I don’t get bent out of shape over it. ---
