Ah, some others:
RobWords - great videos on the origin and history of the English language (mainly focused on British English, but some great videos on the origins/differences in American English and British English), and other general language history videos. Today’s video is about Celtic languages.
Skallagrim - Medieval weapons (and in older videos, firearms)
Anton Petrov - Daily science news story, usually space-focused (but not always)
Steve Mould - Science exploration
Oversimplified - History, humorously presented
ZeFrank - Hilarious animal “documentaries”
Some others that have been mentioned: Overly Sarcastic Productions, Extra History (and sister channels Extra Mythology and Extra Credits), Veritasium, Tasting History with Max Miller
Soft White Underbelly.
Not exactly an “escape” as it generally breaks your heart to watch. The interviews with people from all walks of life are fascinating and reinforce “never judge a book by its cover”.
Ditto, although if anyone is really curious I’ll maybe add that.
I mostly watch a lot of Minecraft videos. I also enjoy forging videos, some diy construction/home repair videos, and some cooking videos.
They are many powerful and compelling life stories among his interviewees, Another one who gives voice to those living on the streets stuck in their addiction is AML Films.
I’m an armchair adventurer
Adam and Elise of Live Hard/LH hikers and serious scramblers, just the most damn endearing sunshiny ridge runners you’ll ever meet and giving viewers knee quivers
The clips from QI (Quite Interesting) are usually pretty funny, and always full of odd facts which are, well, quite interesting. And with Britush accents, so it sounds nice, too.
Chess
Chess Vibes
Gotham Chess (I have his book)
Travel
Kara and Nate (Millennial Tennessee couple tours the US and the world, does a fair bit of adventure stuff (like spending the night in ice caves))
Flying the Nest (Gen Z Australian couple travels the world/Australia with their adorable preschoolers)
The Endless Adventure (Millennial Missouri couple tours the US and the world, way less intense than Kara and Nate)
Culture
Lost in the Pond (British dude living in Chciago)
Feli From Germany (German woman living in Cincinnati)
Gaming
GeoWizard (Geoguesser, some travel but always with a weird premise, like touring the East Coast of the US in a ratched sailboat, or crossing Wales in a straight line)
Chicago Geographer (Geoguesser)
Jack Sucks At Geography (Geoguesser, geography quizzes and games)
Gray Still Plays (Mostly GTA)
Food/Cooking
Emmy Made (Cheerful Asian American mom who tries fun recipes)
Tasting History With Max Miller (American (or maybe Canadian) guy who makes historical recipes)
Guga Foods (Brazilian-American Gen Xer who tries steak experiments)
MrNigelNg (British-Malaysian-American guy who, in character as Uncle Roger (crotchety old Asian dude) shits on bad cooking, praises good cooking)
ChefBrianTsao (Chinese-American chef who reviews cooking videos)
Beryl Shereshewski (American woman who crowdsources recipes from her viewers around the world and tries to make them)
Defy Quick Categorization
How Ridiculous (sort of Australia’s answer to Dude Perfect)
Atomic Shrimp (if Mr. Rogers were British and his intendend audience was adults; Straight Doper @Mangetout whose videos are whatever he feels like making today; his voice is soothing and he sounds like a kindly British granddad who will play chess with you on Friday and buy you a pint at the football match on Saturday)
Rob Words
Beau of the Fifth Column
Trae Crowder
JocieB ASMR
Mentour Pilot
Lots of others but I check these regularly. Of course I listen to lots of old songs that I find.
I adore Rob Words!
And they seem to have an endless supply of clips.
Beryl Shereshewski (American woman who crowdsources recipes from her viewers around the world and tries to make them)
I am a semi – vicarious Beryl watcher, meaning that my wife regularly watches her videos, and if I overhear something interesting I will sidle on over and watch with her. One of the things I do appreciate about her is that she will get a recipe, make it, and then say “this might be for people who like ice cream to taste less like durian” or something equally polite, but clear that it’s not to her taste. I do also like seeing the videos from around the world.
I subscribe to too many board game and chess channels to even list here, in fact I have the FIDE channel on right now to watch the candidates matches, but also I like
- hbomberguy, Who makes 3+ hour videos debunking things, which you would never in a million years think you would watch a video that long, and yet you find yourself doing it.
- Thomas Flight, who posts thoughtful pieces on cinema about once a month.
- brooey deschanel, who also posts thoughtful cinema pieces
This thread has prompted me to watch atomic shrimp. (Mangetout). I will be watching more of his videos.
Morgan Donner, historical/DIY sewing and crafting in general (including some carpentry and metalworking) with a somewhat more “goofy” just-having-fun vibe but also serious knowledge and skills (check out her “500 Years of Hairstyles” vid for an information-packed crash course in historically informed hairdressing)
I’ve watched Donner’s “500 Years of Hairstyles” video. Really interesting, and I admired her commitment, given that it ended with her shaving her head.
Honestly thought you’d never ask.

I can’t believe I didn’t mention hbomberguy, I even support him on Patreon!
I even have Max’s book!
I don’t have his, but I do have an autographed copy of Joshua Weissman’s boom that I found at Powell’s in Portland. He’s another Youtube chef I enjoy though I don’t watch him as regularly.

“You’d think Kron would mention that he supports me on Patreon…wouldn’t you?..WOULDN’T YOU??..”
Glad to see there’s another Jolly Channel watcher here. I love their videos…even if they sometimes rhapsodize a bit too much. I especially like their vids with kids enjoying new-to-them foods – both US and UK kids. Plus, I love Mr. Smith the head (is that the correct term?) of the school in the UK where they feed kids unusual foods. Also, when they visited a Trader Joe’s in the US, it was my Trader Joe’s. I was pretty jazzed.
I like to watch animal rescues with happy endings. And funny dachshund videos .
But mostly I just surf. I don’t watch anything religiously.
Randy Rainbow used to keep me sane, but I haven’t seen any of his lately.
Yep, I refused to watch any of his videos because of the clickbaity titles, and couldn’t understand why they kept being recommended to me. Finally watched one, and it wasn’t bad, but I sure do despise the naming structure…
It was because of a Chubbyemu video that I was able to recognize the signs of medically severe dehydration in myself when I got rotavirus last year. If I hadn’t called 911 when I did I might’ve passed out and died in my hotel room. The least I can do is look the other way at his clickbaity video titles.
