Do we have to have this conversation every single time? If you speak with a rhotic accent, _porn_ and _pawn_ aren’t pronounced alike. Have you ever heard someone speak with an American accent? Most Americans are rhotic. And some British people are rhotic too.
Porn - [pɔɹn]
Pawn - [pɒn] or [pɑn]
Even if you have a non-rhotic accent, it’s possible to pronounce them somewhat differently:
Porn [pɔːn]
Pawn [pɔn] [pɒn]

:::hijack::: In Florida (and maybe elsewhere as well) There’s a Matthews Currie Ford. And in Orlando there’s a Curry Ford road (no relation.)
It’s almost as nice a coincidence as in Sarasota where there is a Swift Road which is renamed halfway along its length into Tuttle Road – no relation to the Swift-Tuttle comet.

There is a fellow in British Columbia Forestries named “Peter Semenoff.”
It’s pronounced just as it’s spelled.

Went to school with Rusty Pipes, had a room mate, Penny Coyne. Then there was the baby in the hospital Crystal Bowl, just don’t understand why do people have to be so mean.
