I sincerely believe that I would have been banned ages ago if I hadn’t set a strict rule for myself about never going into Great Debates. I’ve been tempted once or twice over the years (“Just one thread! I can remain reasonable for one thread!”), but I know that ultimately it would lead to Bad Things. I voted other; because I can’t imagine a scenario where I would get booted. Therefore if I did get booted it would be for something I did on accident. I would try to reason with the mods, and hopefully my track record of being a fairly quiet and non controversial poster would be enough for them to let me back. This brings up a good question: Has there ever been a user banned and then un-banned and allowed to keep the same username? I think it’s only logical that some users have been banned and then came back under another username; unless they’re checking IP addresses or something. Even if the mods know about it; I could see them letting it go on as longs as the formerly booted user is now towing the line. ---

I’m sorry to have to say that the OP’s “hacked account” scenario still doesn’t strike me as plausible. I’m on the Dope daily, and I would notice if warnings were accumulating in my inbox. It would be a simple matter to clear up the misunderstanding via email. ---

The only way I can see myself getting banned is if I totally lost it on another poster. It could happen, I suppose but I think after a warning I would stop. And if I did get banned, I would try to throw myself at the mercy of the mods. ---
