Pretty wild pitch to strike out on. I was watching the ball thinking, Oh man, that’s a ball, when all of a sudden, I realize the batter is swinging! Arm troubles? What arm troubles?? 😃 And that’s the first Cubs no-hitter since Milt Pappas in 1972!!! ---

From a Sox fan - nice game. I’ve been to a couple no-no’s and they’re exciting as hell to watch. I do have kind of an issue with MLB moving the game to Milwaukee which is basically Wrigley North. Someplace truly neutral woulda been nice. Probably wouldn’t have changed anything but still. ---

Darn. I briefly entertained heading up to Milwaukee today for the game. Oh well. Great day for the Cubs. Milwaukee loses the twin bill to the Phillies, Cubs win their game, magic number down to 7. Go Cubs! ---

He said that at the Cubs conventions, Milt Pappas has always told him that he would be the next one. Good for Big Z! Hopefully, this will kickstart them for the rest of the season. ---

Well, when Milt Pappas goes on the radio to carry on his 36-year bitch against Bruce Froemming, they won’t be able to introduce him any more as the last Cub pitcher to throw a no-hitter. ESPN cut away from the Sox game to show the ninth inning, which normally would piss me off but the Sox were in cruise control with a 7-0 lead so under the circumstances I was actually more interested in Zambrano. Then wouldn’t you know it, a few minutes later it was 7-7. But the Sox won anyway . . . Go Dewayne Wise! Career minor leaguers rock! ---

Clearly, the reason they didn’t use St. Louis has nothing to do with Cubs fans, since Milwaukee had as many if not more than would have shown up in St. Louis. Your quote, I believe, is from a time when options were being explored and at that time, both Milwaukee and St. Louis were thought to be no-gos for that reason. I, personally, think the Astros got hosed by the whole thing. Atlanta’s stadium would have been free last night and tonight, though admittedly Atlanta does have a home game Tuesday. There has to be at least one other neutral stadium which could have been used that would have been something other than a home game for the Cubs. But Selig has used Milwaukee’s stadium before as a neutral site, presumably because he basically still calls the shots in Milwaukee. And truth be told, you could hold the game in Bumf\*\*\*, Montana, and it would be filled with Cubs fans, so…😛 ---

Yeah, even so there would have been fewer cub fans in St. Louis, which is the home of a major cub rival. The Astros did get hosed but the cubbies are the sweethearts, so who’s surprised? ---

If the Cubs play the Astros anywhere outside the Houston metro area, Cub fans are going to predominate. I would have expected that, given the standings, a sizable number of Brewer fans might have turned out to root against the Cubs; but maybe they’re just thinking wild card. Besides, anyone but a hardcore Cub hater would have been rooting for the no-no by the end, even if they had originally started rooting for the Astros. Congratulations, Big Z!!! ---

To be fair, they didn’t sing “Take Me Out To The Ballgame” during the stretch, so it wasn’t really like a home field game for the Cubs. 😉 BIg congrats for Z, he put in a masterful performance. The Astros did get robbed on the whole deal though. They got to the hotel at 2:00pm and had to report to the field by 4:00pm, so they were probably a bit tired, and it showed. The fans would have dominated almost anywhere. I honestly believe that outside of the East coast fully 67% of everyone between the ages of 14 and 35 is at least partially a Cubs fan. They could have held the game in the Faroe islands and Cubs fans would have dominated the crowd. ---

Ted Lilly of the Cubs has allowed no hits through 5 innings today, making it 14 consecutive innings with no hits allowed for the Cubs pitchers. They lead 4-0. ---

How did they handle tickets for these games in Wisc? I think that while they won’t say so publicly, privately they wanted to make sure the game sold a lot of tickets, which it wouldn’t have in St. Louis. ---

What other places would have been available? I"m sure they wanted a place with a roof to guarantee the game wouldn’t be rained out. Arizona was hosting the Reds over the weekend and has the Giants today. Back to back no hitters would be amazing. ---
