Yeah, I don’t think he understands the concepts of “romance”, “dating”, or “sex”, except in vague theoretical ways. As I said, don’t think he’s had a romantic relationship in his life. He’s heard the horror stories, but doesn’t have the life experience to put them into perspective.

This is probably the first time I’ve ever noticed him, and that was exactly my impression. This guy has never had a romantic relationship with an actual woman, just the imaginary ones he’s heard about on message boards and scary newspaper articles. While not denying your basic premise, I don’t think one can usefully compare “spends much of her day on the Dope” with “is so out of touch with the outside world he literally thinks that all Christians secretly want to execute him for apostasy.”
Unless things have changed dramatically with Guin there is a lot more to it than “spends much of her day on the Dope”. This is someone who must be in her early/mid thirties, still lives at home, does not have a steady job or any sort of social life and seems to spend a whole shitload of time on the Dope/Giraffe/Snark boards.
This is not someone who is in a position to judge others, yet seems to make a life out of it.

Why is this such a difficult concept to so many here. Whether or not she’s aware of the event, she was violated.
In fact, in California the “secret” filming is illegal (as it applies to this discussion) The viewing of the immage is illegal, and the transportation/sending/forwarding of the image(s) is illegal. “Secret” wouldn’t apply if she knew, would it?
There exists a reasonable expectation of privacy when an individual is certain areas. Rest rooms, bedrooms, tanning salons, etc. If that person is in such a place, and that person is filmed, and is identifiable, then there is a crime.
Her perception is not an element of that crime, nor is it a defense thereto. Example, those buttnuggets that film up a womans dress or down her top while she’s on a staircase. The woman never finds out, so according to your theory, there is no crime?
Consider it a moral wrong with a jail sentence if you like. Regardless, the collective conscious of society as dictated by the legislature deems it inappropriate behavior.
If that’s the case, its even more reason why he should be seeking consent. The would-be sociopathic false rape-accusers who object to being filmed can be scratched off the sex list and be sent home. Problem solved; no risk to worry about.
I know, I know. Sex is paramount. Nothing should stand in the way of a man and his precious sex, and that includes informed consent. Still though, you’d think eventually it would occur to those who are as paranoid as Der that being selective with whom you sleep with might be prudent. If the guy rejects out of hand any strategy that might help weed the sociopaths from the non-sociopaths before he puts himself in harm’s way by sleeping with them, then I’m going to call him stupid and lazy in addition to unethical.
