I suspect that places like Montana and Wyoming have high numbers because they have a lot of, say, interstate highway per capita. But we all use them, either directly (think Yellowstone) or indirectly (i.e., cross-country trucking shipments, etc.). No way I’d give up either Grand Teton or Glacier, even though Dick Cheney (my old congressman) is a Wyomingite. ---

Connecticut. I talk to my companies vendors from all over the county everyday, and by far the must obnoxious and stupid people seem to be in Connecticut. Even New Yorkers and Bostonians can afford to have manners from time to time. I’d also toss Rhode Island along with them. Come on not only is it the size of some walmart parking lots its not even a freaking island. ---

It’s because we have payments to farmers and a low population in relation to the amount of federal dollars we receive in assistance (unemployment, social security, food stamps, etc.) We’d be happy to secede, join Canada and charge you all at the border to enter. whistlepig ---

For their overall lack of any positive contribution to the good of America I would lop off:[ol] [li]Mississippi[/li][li]Alabama[/li][li]Georgia[/li][li]Texas[/li][li]Louisiana[/li][li]Georgia[/li][li]South Carolina[/li][li]North Carolina[/li][/ol] After this maybe we could actually start making some meaningful accomplishments in this country. ---

I was wondering why no one said Georgia. I second it. WTF are they providing to us nowadays? If not them, then Alabama is my second choice. ---

I also remember a report a few months back listing total payments to states from the Department of Homeland Security, where the Rocky Mountain States had the most spending per capita, with Wyoming leading the way. Because you just know that al Queda are planning their next hijacking in Shoshone. ---
