We're thinking of you guys today...

I knew that the US would hold a number of events to commemorate the 6 month anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Goodness knows our own newspapers were full of retrospectives on the event over the weekend.

Yet nothing prepared me for the impact of turning on the TV this morning to the image and sound of a lone policewoman singing The Star Spangled Banner. I can only imagine that the September 11 documentary, combined with this anniversary, is bringing up a lot of feelings for many of you.

If it's any consolation at all, know that we here are thinking of you and that I doubt very much I'll be able to watch the news reports of the "towers of light" being turned on without shedding a few tears myself.

Be kind to each other today.

Merryl

It's true.

Our local paper on Saturday carried a long story about what one WTC employee went through. It took him hours to contact his family, who assumed he had died. The simple account of what he and they went through had me in tears.

All over the world, there are people thinking of you all.

A Kiwi chipping in on this one, too.
Thinking of you all today, with the hope that Sept. 11's events never happen again. For anyone.

To our American brothers and sisters..

We were with you then, and we're with you now.

Good to see America well and truly back on her feet. Your courage has been a lesson to us all, friend and enemy alike.

We're proud of you.

Wow! This is such a touching thread. I'm an American & really appreciate this. Will never forget the images 6 months ago, of the worldwide support and empathy. Thanks & hugs!

A sad remembrance

Back home in Denmark, the six-month WTC anniversary was somewhat overshadowed by the arrival of the coffins of three of our soldiers who died in Kabul (as did two of their German colleagues) when something went horribly wrong as they attempted to defuse an SA-3 SAM.

So while we spent 11/3 mostly focused on how best to honour our own dead and comfort their families, we were with you in a very real sense all the same.

Six months... hard to believe. It felt like we were going to live in that moment forever at the time.

America, we are proud of you, and proud to be associated with you. If one thing has come out of this tragedy, it's unity.

Here's to healing.
