One that I made myself mind you, with lots of sweating, swearing and tears.
Okay maybe no sweating or tears. But LOTS of swearing!
Today is Purgatory (a LARP Vampire: Dark Ages game I play) and my c is Scottish. So I decided to finally get my butt together and make a costume… yeah a kilt. I bought this really nice cotton fabric at fabricland in a plaid print and brought it home. And in the hour before I have to leave to get ready… I made it.
I shoulda made it ages ago. I’ve had the cloth for almost a month but nooooo I had to wait till last minute. So I tried following the directions on this website but I discovered the cloth wasn’t wide enough, so I had to flip it horizontally. THEN my belt didn’t want to hold the pleats ARRRRRGH.
So I re-pleat (is that a word??) it and out comes the needle and thread. Quickly I sew along the pleats I made to hold them in… okay cross fingers… it worked!! Now the problem is putting it on. How the hell do I do this… more swearing and fumbling with the cloth and belt. Okay I manage to get it on… now the over the shoulder part.
How do I do this?? Whenever I tug it up the other side of the kilt gets tugged upwards and stretches making it flat again… GAHHH!!! Okay okay calm… fold the cloth up so it’s not as bad as it was and tug it over. Okay that doesn’t look so bad. It’s just a costume for a game no worries. Now how to pin it. I don’t have a brooch to use!! Okay search for safety pins… none anywhere. When I REALLY need one I just can’t find one! Oh here’s one… it’s holding the strap of my purse together. Ah well I’ll just take my backpack instead. Okay. Pinned…
But NOW it’s pulling my shirt to the side and falling down! Durn it! Okay… pin it to my bra through all the fabric. There now that works.
Okay… so I’ve got it all done. Great! So here I am after all that work killing time before I leave to go play. Shame I’m missing a stocking so I’ll just have to tug my socks up extra high and pray no one notices my unshaved legs. But hey, it’s the Dark Ages when did women ever shave back then!?
Sorry Silent, this was just a quick version. Let me un-stitch it and figure it out and when I get it right we’ll see…
Blackeyes, I know that only men wear kilts. Women wore/wear something similar only longer (ie more decorous). But my c… well lets just say she pushes the envelope of fashion at all times.
The first game we played I didn’t anything to wear so I just dressed all in black and borrowed a cloak. Here’s a picture of the Gangrel at the first game. I was in GASP breeches!! But considering my character is wild (the Gangrel are more animalistic), has lived in the Highlands away from most society for the past 100 years, and has need to travel. Well going as a boy made the most sense to her (see? Breeches… short hair… peasant… boy!) so that’s the explanation I came up with.
Second game we played I still hadn’t had money for stuff to make/buy a costume so I managed to find my IAAF Championships costume from the opening ceremonies and wore that over her breeches. (Sorry no pics of that game) Basically it was a light blue dress that fell to my ankles (once I took out the hoop) and the top had looong sleeves. So that worked, but Zil got sick of the dress (which she found in the ditch btw… on a corpse) so she took it off, insulting all the ladies who had complimented her on seeing the light.
This game, I wore a kilt. Itw as so much fun! Shame I couldn’t find my other stocking… I got lambasted by both Lasombra and Cappadocians for being unseemly and showing GASP calf!
Basically it’s a fun sub-plot to the game for me. A number of people have taken offense to her not being seemly and decided to take her under their wing. I keep getting lectures on being more decorous, less heretic… even on being more pious! Zil of course just ignores them and wears whatever she feels like. Mucho fun…
I am a relative newbie and did not realize that you are female until I got to the part about the bra. My mind still didn’t make the switch and I was imagining this really burly red-headed, red-bearded Scotsman wearing a bra! Thank goodness I figured it out before I inquired if you were going “regimental.”
Oh a Scotsman clad in kilt left a bar one evening fair,
and one could tell by how he walked that he’d drunk more than his share,
he fumbled round 'til he could no longer keep his feet ,
then he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street.
…
Gee, I guess with a small ribbon and enough “material,” you could…one couldn’t really call it a “ponytail,” but one could make a…well…what WOULD you call it?
LMAO Zoe I didn’t even think of that! Thanks for the hilarious image in my head I’m gonna be snickering at that all day!
Wolfman I LOVE that song! It’s hilarious! Especially if you know the last two verses which are rather raucious (sp??)
Heh… Typo I dunno about that. Might be funny though.
And NO PEOPLE I didn’t go regimental. No flashing people across the room, that would just be mucho bad at a game. I’d never live it down.
Hmmm… thinking on it I should start keeping a diary of Zil’s adventures game to game and tuck in a breakdown of her years (as per the downtime system we use) to fill it out. I’ll remember stuff better that way.
Oh and once the pics taken at last game are put up I’ll put a link to the one with me in it so you all can see it. If the whole thing is in the picture.
At one point I had a pic of a couple of guys in kilts, a gust of wind had come up and well one of them flew up (his back was to the camera) Shame I can’t find it now. He had a cute butt
